If so, which ones, and why? And if not, same questions again.

If you've passed by and checked in on some of my posts over the past year, you will know that I have been collecting Steem-Engine tokens, mainly through buying and curating, and with a some content production too.

The recent changes have been a bit of a curve ball, and the Steem-Engine tokens have suffered badly. I've long thought that many tribes could do much better with regards to negating shit-posts, and disappearing bad actors, but the turbulent times over the past couple of months have really put a lot of sell pressure on all the tokens I keep track of.

However, Hive-Engine now seems pretty much ready to go, and the tribe owners have been busy re-positioning themselves on our new blockchain, Hive. I must admit I'm not completely clear on the current costs for tribe owners, but I am under the impression that those that hold tokens on Steem-Engine will receive the same number of tokens in either a swap or a drop. I think a swap makes more sense in theory, but I'm not sure as to the complexity of each approach.

That doesn't really matter to the end user and token holder though, what matters is that the tribes and our tokens will live on, so why all the selling?

The end goal, I think, for many of the tribes will be for their tokens to be available as an SMT, or whatever it will be called when they finally arrive. Attracting people to Steem/Hive, especially during the bear market has been tough, but a bit like the SteemPress (HivePress?) plug-in, curators will no longer have to come to a Hive interface (hive.blog, peakd) to read content that is being rewarded in HIVE, or a tribe token.

These 'outposts', on WordPress blogs or sites keen to embed the comment+rewards mechanism, could well draw users to the 'central' sites, but it may not be a deal-breaker if they don't. The site owner may just wish to curate the comments on their own site, with Hive Power as fuel and a specific token relating to the content they are producing. Either way, the Hive name should gain publicity, and hopefully, more holders and investors.

Many of the tribe tokens have been around for coming up to a year now, and even though prices are rock bottom, they are still ticking over - content is still being produced, and curators like myself are still doing the rounds most days, to support those putting the time in.

I do suspect that not many of the tokens will make it to SMT, but I'm fairly confident that the LEO and STEM will not go down without a fight. LOTUS (#naturalmedicine) is another that I think is suitably niche, and the content topics produced under that tag/in that community continue to be popular.

I'll stick the usual disclaimer about this not being financial advice, but I do think that some of the tokens look cheap right now. Anyway, I'm going to continue collecting and see what happens. Is anyone else doing the same, or are you running for the exits?

Cheers

Asher
