Another look at the value of my Tribe tokens in STEEM/HIVE, and how that compares against the two dates I did this towards the end of 2019.

On the 25th September 2019, I spent some time calculating how much my Tribe tokens were valued in STEEM, and did the same again on the 18th December 2019. Since then, Hive has arrived and most of these tokens have moved over to the superior chain. Those that didn't are now almost worthless, and their corresponding interfaces cease to exist.

When the Tribes arrived, I decided to create a new account for each and vest the tokens to this exclusive account. This allowed each account to focus curation and mostly avoid voting on posts which were tagging as many Tribes as possible in order to collect tokens. As my Tribe accounts are fairly easy to spot (abh12345.Tribe), I wasn't keen on voting for content which was unrelated to the particular community.

Most of my Tribe alts have never produced a top level post (.sports, .spt being the exceptions) but I have used use the Tribe tags (hopefully) where appropriate with the main account. PAL, NEOXAG, LEO, SPT, BATTLE, GG rewards are fairly evenly split between author and curation, but the rest of the Tribe tokens have mostly(all) been earned via curation. I have also purchased some tokens, but nothing in large amounts.

The total STEEM value, if I were to obtain best price on steem-engine, of the tokens at the end of September 2019 was just under 9000. This rose by around 16% between then and the 18th December 2019, and looking at the table below, the value has risen by around 65% from mid-December through to today.

Token | Amount | S | Amount | S | Amount | H or S

  • | - | - | - | - | - | - TOTAL | | 8965 | | 10649 | | 16297.74

S = STEEM value S or H = STEEM or HIVE value (depending on which chain the token was/is now linked to)

I should state again that these values in STEEM/HIVE were calculated using the Bid price on steem/hive-engine, and it is very unlikely that I would have been able to sell the full amount at this price. Also, I have recently sold around 1500 HIVE worth of LEO, which if still held would make the total % gain since last December be closer to 80%.

It's all about the LEO

Those paying any attention to the Tribe tokens and the table above will no doubt have noticed that the main contributor to the numbers is LEO. The value of the token has has rocketed in recent weeks due to the pending launch of wLEO - which I think is going live today or tomorrow. For me, and many others, LEO looked likely to fair the best out of the Tribe tokens, and this is from one of my posts earlier this year:

I do suspect that not many of the tokens will make it to SMT, but I'm fairly confident that the LEO and STEM will not go down without a fight. LOTUS (#naturalmedicine) is another that I think is suitably niche, and the content topics produced under that tag/in that community continue to be popular. From a post dated 7th April 2020

I don't hold that many LOTUS, but they are still going along and the content isn't too bad in my opinion. STEM was my 2nd most fancied to do well and I have been collecting these - they are easily the 2nd most valuable token I hold in the Tribes at present.

However, it is all about LEO at present and I'm eager to see how wLEO goes - hopefully what's good for LEO is good for HIVE. We shall see.

Cheers

Asher
