Lalbagh Fort

Lalbagh Fort is located in the Lalbagh area of ​​old Dhaka on the banks of the river Buriganga in the southwest of the capital Dhaka. Although Emperor Aurangzeb planned to build Lalbagh Fort, his son Prince Azam started the construction of Lalbagh Fort in 16 AD. Initially, Lalbagh Fort was named as Aurangabad Fort or Aurangabad Fort. Later, after the death of Iran Dukhat Paribibi, daughter of Subedar Shaista Khan, in 164 AD, he stopped the construction of the fort. In 1844, the Aurangabad area was renamed Lalbagh. Along with the name of the area, the name of the fort was also changed to Lalbagh Fort. At present the residence and court hall of Subedar Shaista Khan is being used as 'Lalbagh Fort Museum'. Although there are three gates in Lalbagh fort, two of them have been closed. Upon entering through the gate, the beautiful garden makes the mind happy. Going straight along the entrance, you can see the mausoleum built for the memory of Paribibi, daughter of Shaista Khan. The mausoleum is square in shape and each side is 20.2 meters long. The mausoleum is uniquely carved and has an artificial dome wrapped in copper foil over the main tomb. Other attractions include the Lalbagh Fort Mosque, the beautiful fountain, some more tombs and the cannons used in the war at that time.

Admission ticket price

Children under the age of 5 do not need a ticket to enter Lalbagh Fort. Domestic visitors have to pay Rs 20 per person to enter the fort and Rs 100 per person for foreign tourists.

Schedule to visit Lalbagh Fort

Lalbagh Fort is closed for full and half day days on Sunday and Monday of the week respectively. Lalbagh fort is also closed on all special public holidays. The schedule of visiting Lalbagh fort varies from time to time. April to September (summer) Sunday - Weekly off Monday - 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm Friday - 10am to 6pm (sometimes closed from 12:30 pm to 2pm) The rest of the week - 10am to 6pm (sometimes closed from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm) October to March (winter) Sunday - Weekly off Monday - 2:30 to 5 p.m. Friday - 9am to 5pm (sometimes closed from 12:30 pm to 2pm) Weekdays - 9am to 5pm (sometimes closed from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm)

How to get to Lalbagh Fort

From Gulistan Golap Shah's shrine you can go to Lalbagh fort by renting 20 rupees. From Azimpur you can easily reach Lalbagh fort by rickshaw. There is a special bus service to visit Lalbagh Fort from the front of Bangladesh National Museum located in Shahbag. There is an opportunity to go by rickshaw from Gulistan, Shahbag, TSC, New Market. Besides, you can come directly to Lalbagh Fort by CNG from anywhere in Dhaka.
