What's your long term strategy in Splinterlands?

At the moment, I'm reading a small book by Brian Tracy called „Eat that Frog“. I found the following quote in this book very interesting:

Long Term thinking improves your short time decision making

In the crypto world in general, I think that the long term perspective is often missing and people make their decisions on impulse or based on their emotional state of the moment. It really helps to define some targets and objectives and then act according to them.

How can we set long term goals for Splinterlands?

In order to define any kind of goals for the game, we need to know – a) how the game will evolve and – b) what part we will take part in this development

To know how the game will evolve, it's important to read the roadmap of the game and know what lies before us. I see things like the land expansion but also the SPS plans as very important. There will be the end of the SPS airdrop at a certain time and a decreasing distribution of SPS tokens.

According to the town hall meetings, the team will try to keep giving use cases to SPS and vouchers and they may play an important role in everything that lies ahead in the game.

Having a long term goal will pay off

When you look at all the things that the game has in store for us, I believe it makes sense to have a long term strategy in place. Of course, you will probably need to define it for yourself but I would like to share my strategy with you.

SPS will matter most

I believe with everything that is lined out, SPS will matter more and more in the game. You will need to stake SPS on players in order to earn SPS in return. This will probably become the main source of income in the future. At the same time, you will need SPS to get vouchers which will also play an important role.

In terms of tokenomics, so far about 15% of all the total supply has already been printed in 6 months. In the remaining 59 months only 85% of the tokens will be distributed. The biggest change will enter in place in 6 months, when the airdrop will stop.

My objective is to collect all the SPS that I get and stake it. I will also try to put the accent on the SPS income that doesn't come from the airdrop because the airdrop's importance will be decreasing the more assets are out. Especially after the general sale starts, I believe that our airdrop income will sensible drop. Once the airdrop will be totally over, the biggest amount of SPS will be distributed through staking and ranked battles.

By increasing my SPS stake, I will be able to increase my rewards from staking.

Improving my deck

In order to increase my income from ranked battles, I need to keep my deck competitive. To do that I want to develop my cards as much as possible and I want to get fully developed summoners. I have two already and when I'm in diamond league, I play almost only these two. If I can develop summoners of other splinters to top level, this will be very helpful.

Also I plan to invest into the legendary summoners once they come out in chaos legion. In the last town hall, they assured that there would be a series of legendary summoners. I will want to try to upgrade them to the max. The more summoners you have in the game, the more you can adapt to the rule sets and at a high level this makes a difference.

Even though I'm not 100% sure about that yet, I believe it will be more efficient to buy the cards that I need directly from the market rather than to buy packs.

Investing and taking profits

Since I want to buy cards at a later time, I have so far sold all my vouchers and I have placed the money in tokens that gain value over time like CTPSB and AWESOME. I also invested some money in diesel pools. This money is now working for me and when I need it, I will have more funds available.

Of course, I could buy some of the cards already now but in my opinion the card prices are not yet at the bottom and I want to buy the cards as cheaply as possible. That's why I'm waiting to buy cards.

A safeguard against your own emotions

I believe that by having a long time strategy, I'm less inclined to fomo in certain situations. I have a game plan. Every strategical decision I need to take in the game is guided by this plan. It's a kind of safeguard against my own emotions and it definitely makes it easier to take decisions.

If you had to define some long term goals in the game, which are they?
