PeakD is a very interactive interface, which allows us many things that other Hive dapps don't. One of them is the possibility to give tips (gifts) in Hive cryptocurrency to other users, through a button on the post.

However, it is uncommon to see the use of this in Hive, it is usual to leave a vote, a comment or a reblog.

Giving a tip to another user's post on Hive can be a way to reward them for sharing content and give them back for their effort, especially if your vote is not that high or if leaving comments is not your thing.

The main reasons why it is not common to give tips in Hive (PeakD) are from my point of view the following:

•It does not bring an economic benefit to the user who gives the tip,

•Validation via Hivesigner or Keychain is required, so it is very complicated to give a 0.1 Hive tip, especially for Hivesigner.

•It is thought that giving tips of small values (less than 1 Hive) are insignificant for the user who would receive it.

For all this, I think that in order to increase the number of tips in PeakD, the validation or use of the active key should be eliminated in some way, so that tips can be given with only two or three clicks. I don't know if this would be possible on a technical level, but if each user could configure that "X" daily amount of their Hive (1 or 2) is available to give in tips without Hivesigner/Keychain validation it would be ideal.

Even assuming this is achieved, tips would still be a voluntary act on the platform. No one is obliged to give a vote or a tip, but rather it is something that is given by initiative, and perhaps almost no one would still be motivated to give tips.

However, we could highlight some advantages in giving tips to another user's content:

•You can give back their effort in a better way if the weight of your vote is very small.

•It is better to receive a 0.1 Hive tip than a very low quality comment. If you can't think of what to comment, you can leave a small tip.

•You give more circulation to the Hive within the platform and more transactions.

•More Hive is distributed among more users, reducing inflation and increasing decentralization.

•You can receive tips back in the future.

Some of these points would be in an ideal scenario, where tips are given massively by Hive users.

According to the current Hive currency price, small tip amounts would be:

0.1 Hive = 0.035$ (minimum tip).

0.2 Hive = 0.069$.

0.3 Hive = 0.104$.

In this way, 10 tips of 0.2 Hive would already represent 0.69$, an already significant amount that would be added to the post author's liquid rewards. But beyond small voluntary tips, you are probably asking yourself:

Why am I so interested in tips?

Because another platform is gaining popularity thanks to them:

Noise.cash is a platform that has been gaining popularity in the crypto world, especially among users of Hive and other similar platforms, due to the possibility of earning rewards in Bitcoin Cash for creating short content (microblogging).

Users receive free tips in BCH, based on their level of interaction, from the site. Then, you can give tips to other users, selecting a percentage of profit for you, ranging from 20 to 80%.

In my experience with Noise.cash, the average tip goes from $0.002 to $0.1, although much higher tips can be seen if the user decides to give it all at once. There is also an accumulation limit that does not seem to go over 1$, where the page no longer gives you free tips until you spend them.

On this platform, I have seen that users can earn between 10 and 30$ monthly for sharing short content, and even up to more than 50$ in the case of users who excel at it. Generally, users with experience on Hive and other platforms have some practical advantage and attract more tips.

While it is true that noise.cash is a platform that does not run on blockchain, plus the funds apparently come from an external central source, the ability to earn rewards for giving and receiving tips has appealed to a growing number of users.

Hive and Noise.cash operate in very different ways, but I think that if somehow a system is created in Hive/Leo to be able to give tips and that this benefits both the giver and the receiver it would be a good way to increase the use of tips, in addition to attracting and retaining more users.

Perhaps this system would be a pool of liquid rewards intended to be distributed to Hive users based on their level of interaction, just for giving tips. I don't know if this is possible in Hive, but I may write about this idea in more detail in another post.
