NFT's in general have been skyrocketing in popularity this year, but this past month has been particularly insane with the sale of rare collectibles.

Some of the classic NFT brands continue to make headlines with record price tags like Cryptopunks, and newer projects like Axie Infinity, NBA Top Shots, and Meebits coming on more recently.

This past month has seen some crazy price tags, big names aside that goes for some NFT's you've probably never even heard of!

Just scanning through NFT sales from the past 24 hours I'm seeing a Chromie Squiggle going for $2.4 Million and a Bored Ape going for $1.2 Million. What even are these other projects?

Top Selling NFT Projects

Looking back over the past 30 days here are the top selling NFT projects.

  • Axie Infinity $775 Million
  • CryptoPunks $305 Million
  • Art Blocks $161 Million
  • Bored Ape Yacht Club $100 Million
  • Meebits $49 Million

A quick note that all of these projects and NFT's are built on the Ethereum blockchain with the exception of Axie's which are on the Ronin blockchain.

You can check out this fun little website cryptoslam.io for all the NFT sales data.

Splinterlands is up there! Currently listed around 50th position for this past month but unfortunately it's listed as being on the WAX blockchain. I don't know if this is an error or if Splinterlands assets on WAX are selling that much more than ones on HIVE?

Generative NFT's Like Art Blocks Are Booming!

Generative NFT's are NFTs that are randomly generated from a seed using an algorithm.

There are often a set of predefined properties but upon minting the algorithm will use the seed and from there randomly assign the properties that make up the unique NFT for which there is no two exactly alike.

Art Blocks is a first of its kind platform focused on genuinely programmable on demand generative content that is stored immutably on the Ethereum Blockchain. You pick a style that you like, pay for the work, and a randomly generated version of the content is created by an algorithm and sent to your Ethereum account. The resulting piece might be a static image, 3D model, or an interactive experience. Each output is different and there are endless possibilities for the types of content that can be created on the platform.

This method results is a wide variety of NFT's that can vary significantly in appearance. Some feature may be incredibly rare and exclusive which often leads to that NFT being given a higher value as determined by the market.

Chromie Squiggle #3784

Yeah it sold for $2.4 Million, which is mind melting that someone would pay that much for digital art that is generated randomly by an algorithm.

That said there is a lot of cool things you can do with generative art and NFT, it really all depends on the vision of the project team and which traits can be generated, I mean the sky is the limit really.

Bored Ape Yacht Club Does $100 Million in Sales

I wanted to take a quick peak at this project that is also doing insane numbers right now. $100 Million in sales in the past 30 days, epic!

Bored Apes are what's known as avatar style NFT's with each NFT featuring the face of a randomly generated ape.

Owning a Bored Ape gives you exclusive access to a members area that presently includes a collaborative graffiti wall, and in the future will no doubt unlock other interesting activities.

10,000 Apes Sold Out!

These apes were first come first serve and each cost 0.08 ETH. Since the initial sale has sold out they're now only available on secondary markets such as opensea.io.

This project has raised around 800 ETH or $2.5 Million with its initial sale!

It will be interesting to see how they continue to add value to the exclusive members only club in the future.

Each Bored Ape is unique and programmatically generated from over 170 possible traits, including expression, headwear, clothing, and more. All apes are dope, but some are rarer than others. The apes are stored as ERC-721 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain and hosted on IPFS.

Again these are generative art avatars in the form of apes, with 170+ possible traits!

That's is a huge amount of traits and with that comes the possibility you land super exclusive 'dope' apes with unique features not shared by many other NFT's, or at least that's the hope when you roll the dice and generate an ape.

Ciao for now,
