The gaming industry have been existing for years now and a lot of could remember the days when we had to play Xbox and enjoyed Super Mario on Nintendo but before the Xbox, there was a game that we used to play and that game is SEGA. Sega brought a new world to the video gaming industry. The Japanese company was bringing a revolution to the gaming world. In 1993, there was a SEGA in almost every home my elder brother visited. The company sold a whopping 30 Million unit at that time.

Sega coming into the US market had to fight with the US giant and the US giant at that time was Nintendo. SEGA was going to market graphics to the market in other to beat Nintendo in the market. For instance SEGA added the blood effect on its Mortal Combat game and Sonic to compete with Mario.

From SEGA genesis, the company improved its console to SEGA Saturn in 1995 but then SONY came into the picture with the PlayStation (PS). PlayStation shook the market proving to be the game for the future and the game for adults. This two product, the SEGA Saturn and SONY PlayStation were amazing products and were going to give a statement at the E3 conference. SEGA decided to sell the Saturn for $399 with the believe that coming to the market first before SONY would be an edge but when SONY’ CEO was going to give a speech, the only word was said was $299. This was a big blow and big problem for SEGA. It was expensive compared to their competitor and this time around, it was $100 more expensive.

Sony was going to be the biggest fear for SEGA as price and marketing was their aim. Sony allowed SEGA to launch its SEGA Saturn and with this, it was able to work on its graphics properly improving on its 3D graphics. Sony took time to upgrade its graphics and had enough money to for marketing. The price was the first problem that SEGA had to battle with. SEGA sales dropped in 1995. SEGA Dreamcast was supposed to be the saving grace for SEGA but then the Xbox Live came into live. SEGA in 2001 had a reduced sale to 3 million unit with the Dreamcast and this was the end for SEGA with console games. Although SEGA still make money with games but this companies have taking over the console gaming industry.
