TL'DR - This blog is a brain-dump theorycrafting a case for Non-Fungible Educational Assets to be utilized by Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs). If peer to peer education is non-fungible, and DAOs need educated members, then tokenizing and gamifying the education process could be used as a means to educate and onboard more active DAO participants.

DAOs, the future of work and purpose-guided education.

This blog post was inspired by @taskmaster4450's awesome posts about DAOs and the future of work as well as several of his videos where he mentions technology changing several industries sooner rather than later. One industry he mentions often and which I highly agree, is education.

Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO) are absolutely fascinating things to think about. Governance through decentralized algocracy. Organization built from hard-coded encrypted bylaws, seeking to achieve an objective. Smart-contract based decentralized purpose-built entities. However while decentralized, DAOs are by nature built and populated by groups of humans, each sharing unique knowledge, skills and perspectives seeking to accomplish the goals that were set out by the organization.

While perspectives are easy to come by, knowledge and skills are constructs that take time for humans to develop. It would make sense that it is in a DAO's best interest to seek qualified participants. This happens today on HIVE, as there are instances of devs working on projects within the HIVE ecosystem with funds allocated to them. Finding talented developers, along with decentralized funding to employ them can be quite a monumental task.

Now imagine a DAO with purpose-driven education built as one of the pillars of it's entire backbone. A decentralized autonomous organization which seeks to not only expand into its stated purpose, but educate the participants within it. What if a DAO could gamify education, educating its userbase through engagement with purpose-guided education? If an organization needs more coders who understand python, it could gamify and tokenize the process of teaching them. With the idea of smart-data packaged into Non-Fungible Assets (NFAs) coming into play, I believe we might start seeing DAOs with coded bylaws that are structure built with an emphasis of educating its members.

Well, maybe

Non-Fungible Educational Assets

I've talked about non-fungible education a few times in the past, so for more reading on that check those posts. But in a nutshell, elevator, back-of-the-napkin pitch:

  • Overcome free entertainment using gamified paid-to-learn blockchain engagement mechanics
  • Utilize "smart-data" NFTs, encapsulating lecture edu video/audio/slide/q&a data with NFT keys
  • Distribute NFTs to lecturer/attendees, charity, sell in aftermarkets for funding
  • Lecturer/student have cryptographic keys for resume/CV.
  • Peer-to-peer education is non-fungible.

Whew. So basically, "hey person x, want some money? Close youtube/facebook and come learn Python 101 in a class you attend with a lecturer. Not only do you learn to code, but engagement will earn you wealth, and you earn an NFT saying you attended the class. Call it "proof-of-acquired-knowledge" or something jazzy."

Someone might ask why create a such a system while there are dozens of websites out there you can learn to code with. Humans are collaborative creatures and some (probably most) learn better through social engagement. Also, clearly an educational system such as this could be utilized for more than teaching coding.

Another great reason is **money, as the US education system is projected to be worth nearly $2T dollars by the year 2025.**

Learn. Earn. Contribute.

What if a DAO could gamify education, educating its userbase through engagement with purpose-guided education? I had a great discussion about the gamification of coding knowledge with @edicted, and while talking I couldn't help but think the aspect of digitizing non-fungible education assets and bridging it into a decentralized organization sounded pretty keen.

If an organization needs more coders who understood python, it could gamify and tokenize the lecture and learning process. Now it has coders, with repertoire, learning exactly what is needed. With the idea of smart-data packaged into Non-Fungible Assets (NFAs) coming into play, I believe we might start seeing DAOs with coded bylaws that are structure built with an emphasis of educating its members. Why? It potentially taps into untapped human potential. (For a brain twister, read that last sentence a few times)

There are some people with some pretty wild ideas that just learn better in a collaborative, engaging and yes, gasp, extroverted way. Give them a place to engage in the learning process. We're all on HIVE, we understand the intrinsic value found within constructive engagement, so I don't need to explain that. What I do think would be cool to see would be DAOs utilizing that powerful mechanic, building wealth upon that engagement, and packaging the learned knowledge into tradeable assets.

*An index of 20 users who own keys that prove they took a DAO's coding class would be highly useful to said DAO.
A list of 20 NFT keys proving a user took 20 different courses with course data packaged within would be highly useful for that user's CV/resume.
In short, would be highly beneficial for most DAOs to put an emphasis on user education, and try to do so in a decentralized, engagement focused manner. Possibly important enough to consider even during DAO inception phases.*
