Principle of art are used to properly organize art elements effectively in our artworks. It is the basis we use in discussing an artwork.

There are seven principles of art, namely:

Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Movement, Pattern, Rhythm, and Unity/Variety

BALANCE

It's simply a sense that an artwork is stable and feels right, a little tilt will make it imbalance.

CONTRAST

Simply a difference in lightness or hue

A difference in colour or value can simply cause a contrast, like when a red clothe is placed against a green clothe. This principle is highly used for distinction between objects.

EMPHASIS

In an artwork, an artist tends to lay emphasis on an artwork by putting in more details on a particular corner so as to help explain the story of his work well. Those emphasis can be achieved through hard and soft edges, colour, and texture, etc.

MOVEMENT

Basically refers to how artists tend to also control the viewer's eyes around an artwork with lines, colours, relating them to objects around a drawing or painting.

PATTERN

This is a uniform repetition of a motif, with patterns you can achieve a beautiful designs on a wrapper, carpets and more.

RHYTHM

This is simply a non-uniform repetition of designs in an organized way. It is just like drawing a shaded circle connected to an unshaded one then to a dotted circle - you kept depicting the circle shape but with changes in rhythm.

UNITY/VARIETY

Painting looks amazing when it has variety and unity of designs. Unified designs most times are dull and much variety of designs cause chaos too - the skillful use of the two will birth a masterful piece.
