I have always preached about Diversification and I always do that with almost everything investment-related. But I also have to add in another point which is to diversify slowly and steadily by which I mean you can diversify a Portfolio from Equity to Equity and Gold but do it slowly over a span of time. The reason I say this is to get the Dollar Cost Average in your favor and the second reason is for you to be comfortable with your Investment style which surprise-surprise differs for almost everyone. In my case, I have my Portfolio diversified into Equity, Mutual Funds, and Gold and now I am ready to add US Stocks to that list as well.

Since I am from India Investing in US Stocks is a little complicated than usual so for my very first Investment in the US I went ahead and bought an S&P 500 Mutual Fund with a lumpsum investment. Yes, I know that Investing in individual stocks would have been better but for me to do that I will have to do extensive research on the Financials of US Stocks and right now I don't feel comfortable doing that. I wanted to just dip my toes into the US Market and investing in S&P 500 does that for me. I have invested like 3% of my Portfolio into S&P 500 and I plan to increase the percentage slowly with time.

Now if you are from the US I would love to hear about any possible stock suggestions and I will take a look into those Stocks as a possible next Investment.
