Icterus/Turpial

The Icterus icterus or Turpial, is a common bird in the north of my country and that has even been observed in some islands of the Caribbean, also among the wide variety of feathers in our territory, it enjoys being the national bird.

Its relatively small size and its characteristic plumage with black wings and a yellow body (hence its scientific name) makes it always stand out in the predominantly green flora in which it is usually observed in search of fruits and insects that make up its main diet.

This photo was taken in the Montecaro Ecological Reserve in the Paraguaná peninsula, a spectacular place to appreciate the flora and fauna of endemic characteristics of this arid region of xerophilous vegetation

El Icterus icterus o Turpial, es un ave común en el norte de mi país y que incluso se ha observado en algunas islas del Caribe, además entre la extensa variedad de plumíferos en nuestro territorio, este goza de ser el ave nacional. Su tamaño relativamente pequeño y su caracteristico plumaje de alas negras y cuerpo entre amarillo (de ahi su nombre cientifico) lo hace siempre resaltar en la flora predominantemente verde en la que suele observar en busca de frutos e insectos que componen su principal dieta.

Esta foto la tomé en la Reserva Ecológica de Montecaro en la península de Paraguaná, un sitio espectacular para apreciar la flora y fauna de características endémicas de esta árida región de vegetación xerófila
