Today's word of the day is: Airdrops. From investopedia: An airdrop, in the cryptocurrency business, is a marketing stunt that involves sending coins or tokens to wallet addresses in order to promote awareness of a new virtual currency. Small amounts of the new virtual currency are sent to the wallets of active members of the blockchain community for free or in return for a small service, such as retweeting a post sent by the company issuing the currency. They are worth whatever someone decides they are. Some are really good and have actual uses.
If you spend any time on $Hive, you have seen these show up in your Hive-engine or @leodex accounts. Some are done as a way of rewarding you for staking or hodling coins. Some are done as a promotional event like "hey look at us" we have a coin! I have a lot of these now worthless coins in my H-E. I'm sure you do as well. Other ways of taking part is a site like ADB This is probably the best maintained and up to date airdrop site I know of.
Here is a random sampling of current offers.

Each one has a list of steps you must do to qualify for a stake in the drop. Some are great and some not so much. The steps can vary from liking a tweet and retweeting it to tweeting, joining a telegram bot server, and joining one or two of their groups. I have even seen a few that require the above plus other steps such as liking youtube channels, liking on FB, IG and more. It's up to you if this is too much work or not. This one isn't horrible. Nor is it an arduous journey to complete.

To date, none of the ones I joined have ever paid out. This excludes the recent #cubdefi drop, natch. That is far and away one of the best drops I've ever gotten. It's the off chain ones that you have to be leery of. Either the project fails or there may never have been any actual coins to hand out. It makes you wonder what their agenda was. It seems a convoluted way to drum up likes on social media. Although, people clamor for free stuff. One airdrop campaign could result in thousands of likes. Just check on Twitter. You can't miss them. Everyone and their brother seems to post them. If it's a simple step, I am guilty of joining in. When it comes to 18 steps, well, you gotta draw a line somewhere. As always, DYOR. I'm sure there are legitimate ones out there. If you know of any, I am very open to learning about them. Airdrops can be a great source of free crypto to play around with. The more use cases a coin has, the better it is. It won't be any good if the drop is 10 coins and you need 10,000 to withdraw. What will I do with the coins? Hodl some and if it's not too expensive, cash out the remainder and buy things like $Hive and @leofinance tokens. Gotta power up that LP! Keep in mind, some of these "free" drops may be subject to gas fees if they are an ETH ERC20 coin. It may also depend on which exchange/wallet you have to use. I get that they all want their own environment to work in. I personally cannot keep up with 7 different wallets because someone chose to be all proprietary. Choose wisely!

As always, just my .02¢ worth YMMV Keep Stackin!
