The eight dollars conversation has been quite interesting. The outcome of this conversation may very well become the beginning of a toxic era for web 2 social media technology and its users. However, I believe anyone who pays for it must believe it to be worth it and I respect that.

Twitter is a great social media application with an intense worldwide impact; it has had quite a character evolution from the days of the jack and freedom of speech control clauses to the current boss, the Messiah of free speech. It’s only been a few days and he’s already told us how advertising isn’t enough to cut the bills anymore, what better idea than to task the people?

What exactly is the use of blue tickmark?

An account has to reach a certain level of publicity, impact or coverage before they can qualify to get the blue tick. It is used to verify the authenticity of an account which is now to be maximized as a social status marker.
Folks are mad for different reasons; some are mad because it makes no sense for them to pay for it, it means nothings and adds no value so why should they have to pay to have and keep it?

Others are mad because from an elitist standpoint, why should every have access to this marker by merely paying eight dollars? The gatekeepers who would hate for their precious little blue bird to become a common thing available to anyone.

Web 2 social media is only profitable to the advertisers, the influencers and e commerce merchants. If you aren’t actively earning through ads and brand sponsorships or sales as it is a market place, then you’re either networking, and helping others reach their goals by saying something or retweeting hence, adding to their numbers; after all it is a numbers game.

Leothread a much better comparison to Twitter, basically pays you to exist on the blockchain through different ways.
Instead of paying eight dollars for a blue tick, you stand a chance of making more than eight dollars by using leothreads to micro blog in the same capacity you use Twitter. #leothreads is a brilliant idea with so much potential for the entire blockchain. It would totally give Twitter a chase for their money.

Leothreads is going to be a force and a game changer when it is adopted by other front ends, expanding it to reach a wider audience. You get to play, to entertain, to learn through microblogging and earn daily rewards for it.

I don’t know what’s in the future for Twitter but I feel like this eight dollars saga is only the beginning, eventually packages are going to start rolling out and Twitter will no longer be free. I feel it is a soft start to making users subscribe to use Twitter. If this becomes successful, then who knows.

I’m sat here with my snacks watching it all happen; but I won’t be surprised to see people paying. We are gullible and it is easy to sell anyone anything. There is no real value to this tick as it doesn’t even reflect an actual reputation; just an elitist marker. And now that anyone can have it, it makes me wonder what real purpose it serves.

Well, Musk did mention the benefits of the said tick- priority in replies, search and mentions, reduced ads, being able to post long videos and audios.
It was initially rumored to be twenty dollars, but was adjusted to to be proportionate to the average purchasing power.

Basically, it’s cry all you want but you’re going to have to remit the right dollars if you to have or hold on to the blue tick. I have so many words but I’d rather just watch it all unfold before our eyes.

It is interesting watching him sell this as some sort of power factor or autonomy to the people, giving them control and a level ground to have equal access to the checkmating; as if blue ticks is exactly what the world needs to be power riding right now. Meanwhile the truth is, no social media will ever give one full autonomy and control over their time and resources like web 3, read: hive.

It is sad to be in a situation and not see how you’re being used as a pawn; as a Twitter user, you have no stake, no say. Times are changing, web 3 reflects an era of people prioritizing autonomy and wanting to make better use of their time and resources.

I’m happy to be on a better side of this game. Thanks for reading.
