We all usually think that retirement is all about having a corpus fund but it is not all about money or it is not just about money alone. There are so many things we have to consider before retirement. The after retirement is not going to be a pleasant one if we don't have a concrete plan. This is something that I have heard from many people. People are excited about this retirement but some people fear that they will lose their activities and routines because of retirement.

According to me, retirement is something that will change our routine from doing things that are needed to doing things that we like the most. We might have been following a routine and life just to earn money but when that purpose is over and we are on the next path of taking rest, that is when it is important to understand what it is that we like the most and what we should be doing in our lives to be happy.

Money can buy happiness to some extent but not to the fullest

We might think that if we have enough money with us, it can bring us happiness to the fullest but it is not the case. People who have almost everything in their life is the one who usually fears the most and is unhappy. They can buy anything in their life with money but not happiness and peace. That's another reason why we have to plan our life properly after retirement. We can think about helping someone who is in need if we have enough money to spend for others.

We can buy things that we want with the money. We can also travel to places we would like to visit. These are a few things that can give some temporary happiness but for permanent happiness, even money is not the answer. They say happiness is something that has to come from within. Giving also gives joy. When people give to others a lot, they find themselves filled with happiness that will take them through their life. Earning some good people in our life is also very important. When we are at a tough time by health or by mind, only good people around us will help us heal. Money might help cover the cost but not a real healer.

Staying engaged

Usually, after retirement people would like to take a rest but that doesn't mean that we have to refrain from happiness in meeting friends and going out or even have another job that will give us happiness. People switch careers in such a way that they do things they like the most after they are done with their primary job. Pets are a very good distraction to spend time on. People might even think about homesteading. Growing our own food gives good peace of mind and happiness.

Engagement is very important and especially when we are surrounded by many people around us, it gives more happy hormones to us and keeps us healthy. I know someone who took trekking as their hobby after retirement. Of course, he retired in his early 40s and did not want to go to a job after that. There are also people who walk a lot after retirement meeting people and having communications with them. So, ultimately staying engaged is the key.
