Travel the World of Postage Stamps - Turtles - Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) - Cuba 1983 - Michel Cuba 2771 - my hobby.

Greetings friends!

Our sightseeing excursion, the purpose of which was to see various species of sea turtles, is coming to an end.

The last exhibit will be a postage stamp from series Turtles, issued on the island of Cuba in 1983, which depicts - Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea).

This is the largest representative of sea turtles and has its own characteristics.

For the most part, the corneous plates that we are used to seeing on the shells of other turtles have been replaced by a dense, skin covering.

Probably, this is the most vulnerable turtle for the fangs of sharks and killer whales, but it is quite large and only a large predator can cope with it. The weight of this turtle is a little less than one ton.

Like most others, sea turtles, Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), crawl out onto land only to lay their eggs.

Small turtles, having hatched from an egg, must overcome the thickness of sand, distance to the water, and on this path they are trapped by dangers, predatory animals and birds.

Of the hundreds of eggs laid, only a few survive, but this is how nature works.

Let's take a look at this postage stamp.
