As the gold is for some of us, cryptocurrencies are for others like some shiny stones (even if digitally) that simply conquered the hearts and makes us keep them forever. Having a bag of crypto with carefully chosen assets which are nurtured in time and grown, makes me to barely be able to part from any of them. Even when I take a profit out of a hyped market or with new all time highs, I have a remorse feeling that even in that winning moment I have still lost something along the way. I am not sure why that happens, maybe because I am a true believer of the crypto revolution or just because I have put the work to get them and is hard to see them leave. So one question rises from here: am I ill or what?

I think that emotions get the better of me sometimes and it is hard to cope with selling in a bull market while it continues and you see that you could have gotten a better profit. That's on the short term and it has an immediate effect upon us. On the long term it intervenes how much you believe in the project and how much it can grow from that moment. I remembered when I've decided to sell my Ethereum to cover my mortgage in a furry moment that I had and after less than an hour I was buying it back. And to tell you that since than the Ethereum price jumped over x10, just imagine how my mind would have coped with that now. So you see, HODLing is not a bad thing and even if the project that you support by not selling ends as a failure, at least you staying with it because of your thinking and not just because of no reason. DYOR is not a joke, so making it will ensure you a peace of mind for the future.

There are moments in time when is opportune to sell and I've lived some projects where I did just that and after that the price fell down 2-5 times. That felt quite good and probably sometimes it is worth selling, some other time it is worth holding. Profits are sweet and when you are seeing the markets go down knowing that you sold your position gives you a good feeling. But when the market turns back you think that you could have been HODLed a little bit more.

Nevertheless I think there needs to be a compromise between when and what to sell and what to HODL. There are some projects on my list that I will be waiting for them to provide some high anticipated prices and there are others where I take some profits and still sleep well at night. And if you are an early adopter or investor in some of them you will be able to take big returns and part more easily with those assets. Emotions are high but we need to keep them real and always be anchored in what we want to achieve. Having goals on our crypto assets or simply of wealth we want to achieve from them should alleviate any trading we are doing. That should be a cure for the HODLing illness ;).
