Splinterlands evolves in the blink of an eye and the gameplay becomes more complex with the multitude of card sets and editions that are rushing onto the market. In order to alleviate this complexity, we would need more filters on the Battle Formation page in order to be able to strategize better and maximize the output of every clash between players. When one sets the formation and sends the monsters into the battlefield, it tries to both send the best team, but also the one appropriate to the rule sets, and the one that brings the most rewards. Thus one might send to battle a formation that doesn't have the highest power, but is good enough to earn the battle and also bring the maximum rewards using Promo cards, Gold Foils, or other NFTs that boost the yields.

Battle Formation page - currently supported filtering

At the moment on the Battle Formation page, we can filter the cards based on a specific range of filters.

  • Foil Type - Regular or Gold
  • Mana Cost - From 0 to 10 with a Clear button as well
  • Attack Type - No Attack, Melee, Ranged and Magic
  • Ability - A multitude of cards abilities
  • Sorting - A way to sort the cards

Battle Formation page - newly proposed filtering

But this is not enough when one strategizes the battle formation based on the available cards, rule sets, and also boosts for the rewards. In order to make the most of it and keep up with the complexity of the game, the growing rules and enrichments added periodically, we simply need more filters on the Battle Formation page. Here are some proposals that I think would benefit all players when sending their warriors to the battlefield.

  • Card Sets - As on the NFT Management page we are already filtering based on the Card sets and subfilter upon Subsets like Rewards or Promo (which give additional earning boosts), I think this would benefit us also on the Battle Formation page.
  • Complementary Cards - This should include cards that can be used in addition to the chosen Element. For example, one can use a Death summoner and with it also send into battle Neutral and even Gladiator cards (this was added not a long time ago along with Summoners being capable to use also 1 Gladiator card).
  • Card Types - This allows any player to use the best cards like Legendary or Epic NFTs. I like to start my formation with Legendary cards and also make use of the others based on the rules. But we all know that based on their type some cards are better than others: Legendary > Epic > Rare > Common.

These can be extended in both the Battle formation page and the Cards management page, even if in the last one some of the options are already supported. And considering that the game keeps on evolving and growing, I think that these proposals with help with the gameplay and usability within the entire Splinterlands metaverse.

Come join the amazing world from the Splinterlands!
