Hello! For my first blog post on a Hive platform, I thought it would be fun to discuss the Alpha game EXODE. Full disclosure, I’m relatively new to EXODE. After reading March's Play2Earn Report by @khazrakh, I decided to take the plunge and buy the 3 origin starter packs to give it a try. After participating in blockchain games such as Splinterlands (Hive), [Rising Star](Rising Star) (Hive), Alienworlds (Wax) and R-Planet (Wax), I’ve learned that it is always better to get in early…especially with projects that have tremendous future potential. In my opinion, EXODE has a lot of things going for it. Below I’ll outline my thoughts to (hopefully) give new members some perspective as they decide whether or note to join the community.

What I like about EXODE

1) NFT Art work

In my opinion, EXODE has some of the best artwork that I have seen in a blockchain-based NFT game to date. Below is an example of one of my favorite NFTs in the game. Although I do not own this card (and I’m not exactly sure how this card is used yet), it definitely looks great! You can tell that the development team has put some significant effort into making sure that their NFTs stand out.
Here is the Elite Arena Powersuit...one example of their amazing NFT artwork.

2) Complexity/Challenge

Another thing that stands out about EXODE is the scalability of difficulty and complexity of the game. For example, an Evacuation using a “Claymore” Hyperfighter with two crew is going to be significantly different from an Evacuation using an Archeon Military Frigate with seven crew. Each will have different challenges that will needed to be overcome in order to have a successful evacuation and planetary landing. The ability to try different origins/combinations of cards adds replayability to the current features.
Additionally, I think the addition of planetary NFTs will definitely be a game changer. I’m still learning about the new scanning/colonization features, but they seem promising to say the least!

*Here is my current planet NFT. I’m excited about the large amount of information presented and how that information will lead to exciting gameplay in the future.

3) Dev response/Discord** Something else that has really impressed me with the EXODE community has been the developer responses that I have seen in the EXODE Discord. Although I do not typically talk in discord, I tend to spend a lot of time reading the messages to both stay informed about upcoming developments as well as to get the “pulse” of the community that has been developed for a game. Elindos Phar is one of the most responsive developers that I have seen in this space. This responsiveness demonstrates just how much Elindos Phar cares about his project and, for me at least, lends me comfort that this project has the potential for a successful future.

**4) The game is still in development… a. From reading discord and watching videos, there are some fantastic ideas for the future of this game. I can’t say what the future holds for EXODE, but with the ideas that I’ve seen proposed in discord, this game definitely has some fantastic potential avenues of game play to explore.

What could be improved…*

1) Sometimes confusing/learning curve One thing to keep in mind is that EXODE is a game that is still in development. As I’ve been playing/learning the game, I’ve come to see that it can sometimes be difficult to find resources/information about certain aspects of the game. There is a nice in-game tutorial that definitely helps, but the complexity of the game at times causes the information to be overwhelming/easy to forget. Along these same lines, the UI can sometimes be a bit bland, although as you get to know the game you get more comfortable with how things are set up.

For example, in the image above, I sent two crew members to retrieve the two crew that were on leave. Both were lost before I realized that I needed to send armed troopers to eliminate the hostiles on the right.

2) Lack of community information I have to predicate this point by saying that there are definitely some good resources out there to help you (most can be found in the resource section on the EXODE Discord), it’s just that the community is still small, so the information out there isn’t necessarily all encompassing. There are times where you have to learn by trial and error (which is fine), but I have a feeling that as the community grows, additionally resources will become available to new members to help them along with their journey.

3) The game is still in development... There are always positive and negative aspects to games that are in development. EXODE is off to a great start as a game, but the game definitely still needs some polishing before it is ready for the masses. This can be frustrating at times, however this is to be expected, as every new game that is developed has to start somewhere. From reading discord, it is clear that Elindos Phar understands this and is working hard to develop an experience that is both fun and engaging for the community as a whole.

*My future goals…

When it comes to blockchain games, I typically like to play the games for fun (as opposed to earning from them). A lot of people play these games for their earning potential (which is fantastic), but I tend to use these as a way to relax from my normal job as a teacher. I enjoy learning about the technology behind cryptogaming and that alone is enough for me to want to participate in this space. If I end up with NFTs that are worth money, great! If not, then at least I’ve enjoyed the experience! That being said, my current goal now is to collect as many EXODE NFTs as possible. I’m currently saving up HIVE to (hopefully) obtain one of the legendary ships (either the Colombus or the Quantum). Additionally, the Rekatron cards seem really neat, so buying/upgrading those are a priority as well. I’m not completely sure what the purpose of Rekatron cards is yet (they didn’t appear in the Evacuation stage during my selections), but the cards look awesome so that’s enough for me.

Overall, I find EXODE to be a fun game that I plan to play for the extended future. If you’re still on the fence about this game, I highly recommend that you spend some time looking at the EXODE discord and doing your own research. I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to blockchain games, but I’ve been impressed with the development that I have seen over the last few months and I am excited to see what the future holds for this game! If you choose to give this game a try, definitely feel free to use my referral link (https://exodegame.com?ref=32c5743). The additional cards that you’ll receive from the booster packs will be ultra useful as you attempt your first Evacuation!
