The next iteration of blockchain games will be heavy

If you've been on my page in recent times, you'll know that I'm a big fan of play-to-earn games. I'm particularly invested in Splinterlands and also excited about PsyberX because I know I'm going to be quite brutal in the game.

PsyberX, in particular, is going to be a first-person shooter game that looks like it will be stretching the capacity of our computers. There have been talks about how it will be optimised but I know that regardless, it will still be stretching the capacity of users' computers.

Yesterday, I tried out a different first-person shooter game that is also in development called Cryptoshots. Just like Splinterlands, the game is affiliated with Hive and Wax blockchain.

Right now, you can get Crypto shots NFT on both Hive and Wax blockchains. There is a marketplace on both blockchains, as players can start getting involved.

I only heard about Crypto shots yesterday and decided I'd try out the game. I'm not exactly a fan of playing games with my keyboard, so it was a struggle but overall, I think I did pretty well.

Despite being a pretty simple game where you move around and shoot hovering bots that shoot laser guns at you, it was quite laggy on my computer. I mean, my laptop isn't exactly a powerful machine as it comes with a 6th generation intel corem7 processor but I figured it should be able to handle this kind of simple game.

If this simple game actually stressed my laptop this much, it's safe to say that I'm probably not going to be able to properly enjoy PsyberX and incoming play-to-earn games that are targeting traditional gamers.

New PC

The way I see it, the fact that play-to-earn games are going to be this huge is a welcomed development and it poses a pleasant problem for me. I have no other choice but to upgrade.

I've been thinking about getting a new computer for a while but it hasn't really been at the top of my priority list. However, my short experience of playing crypto shots completely changes that.

The plans to expand Splinterlands have been in the works for a while and when the metaverse finally comes into the scene, I reckon having a proper PC will make life easier for players.

Building a decent gaming computer will cost upwards of $2k, but since I'm not rich, I'll just have to save a tiny bit of my income every day.

I'm still far away from my target and with technology constantly improving, I don't think there's any reason to lock on to any particular spec. I reckon it will take a bit over 18 months before I can even start looking at PCs; one day at a time, I'll get there.
