A lot of us might have heard about Mark Cuban and if you haven’t then maybe it’s because you are not living in the United States or because you aren’t into sports so well especially basketball. A lot of us might know him as the owner of Dallas mavericks, co-owner of 2929 entertainment and Brondell, Chairman of AXS TV and one of the sharks in the popular show Shark tank. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, mark grew is wealth from scratch. He was a Bar tender and a manager for a year after which he was sacked. This made him start his business micro solution which he sold for 6 million dollar after which he started another called broadcast.com which he sold to yahoo for nearly 6 billion dollar. It won’t be a surprise that he purchased the majority stake in Dallas mavericks for $285 million. Hey do not go too far, this billionaire started from scratch selling garbage bags from door to door at the age of twelve.

I want to look at a few things that this business owner, investor, entrepreneur, TV personality and Billionaire have to say about doing business and see if it is a good one. If you think he speaks nonsense then you might have to pick the sense in the nonsense which might need a separation technique (non/sense). If you do not know, this billionaire has written 19 books which would help every business person and as a shark in the TV series Shark tank, you should be certain he knows what he is saying.

Learn even when you are being paid

”In every job, I would justify in my mind, whether I loved it or hated it, that I was getting paid to learn and every experience would be of value when I figured out what I wanted to do when I grew up.”- Mark Cuban

Cuban made it clear that when doing a business, you should see it as learning and when learning, you should see it as a business and make money from doing it. Mark said when he was in school, he did a lot of things to make sure he was making even while getting knowledge and after school, he took everything he business opportunity as an avenue to learn. Cuban says the reason entrepreneurs fail to stand when they fail, is they never saw their endeavor as an avenue to learn rather earn and when they earned they forgot to learn.

Own Your Effort, It Determines the Business.

”Everyone wants to win, but only those prepared to win will actually do it.” – Bobby Knight

Cuban love the quote by former basket coach Bobby Knight and says that the only thing you can own up to in business is your effort. Market cold crash, customers can be unpredictable but your effort can’t be denied. Putting in little effort into business and expecting a large will be fallacy.

Never Hold on To Sell When Needed

*”If you can master selling, then you can accomplish anything.” – Mark Cuban

He said he started selling at the age of twelve and he said that selling is the only way to make customers happy. Sell what they want and you make them happy. You sell a customers need and at the same time you connect with them.

Build Businesses to succeed not for Sales

“You should focus on building the best possible business. If you are great, people will notice and opportunity will appear”.

Cuban said instead of building a company with the aim of selling which is what most tech companies do now, it is best to build a company with the aim of not selling so when a buyer comes, there will be a better value placed on it. Businesses built to be sold often end up as garbage at the end but businesses built to succeed always end up successful.
