One of the perks for the Crypto.com Visa debit card (depending on your staking tier) is the LoungeKey membership. This is the sort of frequent fliers lounge access club... and I've seen it there for ages, but never activated it. Actually, I'm usually a bit wary of those places anyway... and I never really going to arrive crazily early enough to an airport to use the lounges anyway. Plus, if I'm early, I always prefer to wait by the gate and just lose myself in a book or a computer game right up until the boarding is called.

So, it was many levels of non-interest for me. I had the higher staking tier due to the CRO rebates and the Netflix/Spotify rebates (apparently those are coming to a close...). Despite the fact that my work involves a lot of travel, I just never really felt like using the LoungeKey part of the package.

However, just before I left Europe, I had a friend check me into a KLM lounge at Schiphol... and actually, it was a nicer experience than I had thought. Mostly, it was nice because it was quiet... and there was a buffet where you could just get a snack (or a meal) and some coffee (or whatever else caught your fancy). That had me sold... after all, getting food and drinks at an airport is sheer extortion! The prices are insane!!!! Plus, I usually would just want a coffee and something to take on the plane now that they don't really serve much in the air.

So, I activated my LoungeKey membership through the Crypto.com partnership... and then waited about 6 months until I was not embarrassed enough to use it! In Australia, there aren't that many lounges that have partnerships with LoungeKey... well, there aren't that many lounges full stop... but there are often a handful of restaurants and cafes in the airport that WILL have partnerships. All of them give you a 36 AUD credit for a single visit.

... and that is good for a small lunch, a drink, and a coffee!

So, I found myself at the airport a touch earlier due to some lull time between finishing teaching and catching a flight for a performance. About 3 hours to kill... so, I got myself a light lunch and coffee, all on the house! Nothing to pay!

It is a bit of an annoying process to use the membership... you tell the staff that you want to use the LoungeKey membership, and they will fire up the special onboarding for you to scan the membership, and then a boarding pass. It isn't used that often, so most of the time, the staff know it exists, but it isn't a fast process... which means that you will be holding up a line for a while whilst they figure it out. And that is the most un-enjoyable part of the whole thing... I hate causing a fuss and drawing attention to myself (which is why I'm a musician... lol... stage persona is different to day persona)... I feel like crawling under a rock whilst I'm holding everyone up.

Curiously enough (and good for me...), you can also use the LoungeKey on the arrival end as well... not just the departure. I had arrived on an early flight and had skipped breakfast to catch a little bit more sleep. So, I managed to get a light lunch, coffee and, a snack right after landing on the boarding pass that I had just flown upon!

So, in two days, 72 AUD worth of food and drink... thanks to the membership that I already had but wasn't using. So, now that I know that it is there... I'm going to use it as often as possible! I'm travelling solidly for a month and a bit from here on in... so, I'm going to make sure that I get my worth out of this thing!

Who said that crypto doesn't have real use cases? My stomach definitely says that it does!... but I wish it was more seamless to use!

Handy Crypto Tools

Ledger Nano S/X: Keep your crypto safe and offline with the leading hardware wallet provider. Not your keys, not your crypto!
Binance: My first choice of centralised exchange, featuring a wide variety of crypto and savings products.
Kucoin: My second choice in exchanges, many tokens listed here that you can't get on Binance!
FTX: Regulated US-based exchange with some pretty interesting and useful discounts on trading and withdrawal fees for FTT holders. Decent fiat on-ramp as well! MXC: Listings of lots of interesting tokens that are usually only available on DEXs. Avoid high gas prices! Huobi: One of the largest exchanges in the world, some very interesting listings and early access sales through Primelist. Gate.io: If you are after some of the weirdest and strangest tokens, this is one of the easiest off-chain places to get them! Coinbase: If you need a regulated and safe environment to trade, this is the first exchange for most newcomers! Crypto.com: Mixed feelings, but they have the BEST looking VISA debit card in existence! Seriously, it is beautiful! CoinList: Access to early investor and crowdsale of vetted and reserached projects. Cointracking: Automated or manual tracking of crypto for accounting and taxation reports.
Poloniex: One of the older regulated exchanges that has come into new ownership. I used to use it quite a lot, but have since stopped.
Bitfinex: Ahhh... another oldie, but a goodie exchange. Most noted for the close affiliation with USDT and the Basic "no-KYC" tier!
