Why is everything so much cheaper in Dubai?

It is true! The United Arab Emirates is the home to cheaper prices for almost anything you are looking to purchase. The first time I realized this was during GITEX. The annual week-long tech exhibition attracts millions of visitors from around the globe. That one week was torture for me as a tech rep. Always on the feet catering to interested clients, running around trying to push sales.

Since then I had the privilege to meet many people and also travel outside. And since then I have grown a keen eye to compare the prices available in the UAE and elsewhere. To much surprise, I usually found electronic items to be much cheaper in the UAE as compared to any other country. Lets be

Sometimes it is a better price due to the packages. At time you are buying a mobile phone worth $600, and get extra items such as a wireless charger or a headphone or something along the lines of it making the entire thing worth $700 but still for the $600 tag. AT times there are packages where you "size up" your item by paying a little extra to get an entire new low-end phone with it.

But the price differences are not only for the latest tech and cars in the market. It is also obvious in the groceries and hypermarkets. Except for most luxury clothing andlifestyle stores, almost every thing is much cheaper than anywhere else.

Since birth I have seen people flocking into the UAE. At one time it was Sharjah that attracted the most people. The city of gold, they called it. Then soon after, even before I became a teenager, Dubai took over the trendy madness.

One thing has been constant throughout. The cost of living is too high in the UAE. But if tech, cars, groceries, and even sometimes luxury items are cheaper than in most countries of similar or on par living standards, then why is the living cost high?

It is the cost of renting a place. Or the cost of maintaining a place when you buy your own apartment or land. The transportation is a closer second. They are probably some of the most expensive things over here, but so frequently in our lives that they drive up the living expense.

But you get what you pay for. Top class, baby!

UAE is one of the busiest business hubs. Anything from the out of stock Porsche Panamera or the grossing anime movie business is directly linked with the consumption coming from UAE.

There is a demand in UAE like nowhere else. For everything. The people have the money to splurge on whatever they like, whenever they like. This means more businesses can provide their services in the UAE. The demand is meeting its supply.

At the same time there is a tough competition for all the products. There is a scope of business, equally to everyone. All businesses are trying to attract the hungry customers to their doorsteps. But before reaching your doorstep there are 100s of doorsteps offering exactly what you have.

And that is why UAE has the cheapest options. Lets compare it with Ukraine's groceries or shopping outlets. The same products, the same companies, the same brands. Everywhere. The prices keep going up, and there are no other options. The market is like a monopoly, run by the same names.

There is absolutely no competition. Hence, no diversity, no choice, and things keep getting more and more expensive. But if it were like the UAE, where there are uncountable brands and names, ton of diversity, this problem would not persist. The competition would kill the prices.
