Disney sale to Apple?

It is one of the wildest but also most exciting speculations at the moment: Will Disney be sold to Apple? Background is the change on the CEO position. Here I had also posted this.
According to a Disney insider, the new old CEO Bob Iger is supposed to sell the company to Apple. That was the mission for which he was brought back, although he was already retired. A corresponding article came out 2 days ago. The whole thing is supported by the fact that his contract is limited to only two years.

In the article at The Wrap, an entertainment news portal, other points were mentioned that speak for the assumption:

  • Bob Iger is very experienced with acquisitions, so Disney has taken over in his previous CEO time, for example, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasarts (Star Wars).

  • The Pixar deal was a collaboration with Steve Jobs, who was at Pixar at the time.

  • Jobs and Iger's families have been friends for many years.

  • The current Apple CEO Tim Cook is also always on the lookout for good additions to his own group and the content of Disney is excellent and, for example, ideal for its own streaming area Apple+.

  • Apple has the financial power to be able to handle such a mega deal of around 200 billion dollars.

How likely is the whole thing?

Personally, I do not believe in such a deal. Disney is only a tenth of the size of Apple in terms of stock market value, but with around 180 billion it is also a huge company. Tim Cook is a CEO who has not yet made any major acquisitions and tends to play it safe in terms of business development. Therefore, the whole thing is possible but from my point of view it is not very likely.

What else is on the agenda?

Assuming that such a deal is unlikely to happen, there is still plenty for CEO Iger to do: The streaming business has to become profitable and grow to keep up with Netflix. The parks are to be fully ramped up again after the years of Corona back and forth with repeated lockdowns and closures. So there's plenty to do. Let's wait and see.
The stock market has so far hardly reacted to the change of boss. After a jump in price on the first day of the news, it has settled back down and the stock is still just under 50% off its all-time high last year. Advance praise is apparently not something the market is granting Bob Iger.

Disney Verkauf an Apple?

Es ist eine der wildesten aber auch spannendsten Spekulationen derzeit: Wird Disney and Apple verkauft? Hintergrund ist der Wechsel auf der CEO Position. Hier hatte ich das auch gepostet.
Der neue alte CEO Bob Iger soll laut Aussage eines Disney Insiders den Konzern an Apple verkaufen. Das sei die Mission weswegen er zurück geholt wurde, obwohl er schon im Ruhestand war. Ein entsprechender Artikel kam vor 2 Tagen raus. Untermauert wird das Ganze durch den Fakt, dass sein Vertrag auf nur zwei Jahre begrenzt ist.

In dem Artikel bei The Wrap, einem Entertainment News Portal, wurden weitere Punkte genannt, die für die Vermutung sprechen:

  • Bob Iger ist sehr erfahren mit Übernahmen, so hat Disney in seiner bisherigen CEO-Zeit zB. Pixar, Marvel und Lucasarts (Star Wars) übernommen.

  • Der Pixar Deal war damals eine Zusammenarbeit mit Steve Jobs, der damals bei Pixar war.

  • Die Familien von Jobs und Iger sind seit vielen Jahren freundschaftlich verbunden.

  • Der derzeitige Apple CEO Tim Cook sei immer auch auf der Suche nach guten Ergänzungen für den eigenen Konzern und der Content von Disney ist hervorragend und zB. ideal für den eigenen Streamingbereich Apple+

  • Apple hat die finanzielle Power um so einen Megadeal von rund 200 Milliarden Dollar stemmen zu können.

Wie wahrscheinlich ist das Ganze?

Persönlich glaube ich nicht an einen solchen Deal. Disney ist zwar vom Börsenwert nur etwa ein Zehntel so groß wie Apple aber mit rund 180 Milliarden auch ein Riesenkonzern. Tim Cook ist ein CEO, der bisher keine großen Übernahmen getätigt hat und eher auf Nummer sicher geht was die Geschäftsentwicklung angeht. Von daher, möglich wäre das Ganze aber aus meiner Sicht ist es nicht sehr wahrscheinlich.

Was ansonsten auf Agenda steht

Nehmen wir an ein solcher Deal kommt eher nicht, gibt es dennoch genug zu tun für CEO Iger: Das Streaming Geschäft muss profitabel werden und weiter wachsen um mit Netflix mitzuhalten. Die Parks sollen wieder voll hochgefahren werden nach den Jahren des Corona Hin und Her mit immer wieder Lockdowns und Schließungen. Es gibt also genug zu tun. Warten wir es ab.
Die Börse hat bisher kaum auf den Chefwechsel reagiert. Nach einem Kurssprung am ersten Tag der Nachricht, hat sich der Kurs wieder beruhigt und die Aktie ist nach wie vor knapp 50% von ihrem Allzeithoch im letzten Jahr entfernt. Vorschusslorbeeren gibt der Markt Bob Iger offenbar nicht.
