It is time again for another Finance Friday. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the Leo community.

You may or may not have noticed that I will likely be using Friday Finance and Finance Friday interchangeably during the course of this series. The truth is, I am a bit of an idiot and I can't remember from week to week which title I am using. The concept of course is the same no matter the title, so that is all that should matter!

HPUD

First things first, the date today is October 1, 2021, so that means we are celebrating Hive Power UP Day today.

It's not as big as I would like, but as you can see I powered up 50 Hive today. Normally in the past this probably would have been a much larger number, but instead of trading or converting my HBD to Hive, I have been placing it in savings to earn that sweet sweet 10% interest rate. Even if they lowered the rate to something like 7% I would probably still keep adding to my HBD because where else can you get 7% besides DeFi or long term traditional investments?

I noticed yesterday that all of my rewards were delivered in either Hive Power or straight Hive. I was a little sad about that, but I understand they are trying to do what is best to keep the chain and prices stable. It doesn't matter too much to me in the end, I pretty much power up everything anyway!

Bitcoin Pumping

This subtitle actually has a bit of a double meaning for me today. If you have checked the markets recently, you will notice that the price of BTC is indeed pumping a bit. Up from somewhere around $42,000K yesterday, it is nice to see it edging closer to that $50K mark again. At ~$47K it will be interesting to see which direction it decides to fall. Hopefully we won't see much more FUD from the China side of things. In my opinion they have pretty much laid their cards on the table and have tapped the FUD tank dry.

Shy of ordering executions for anyone holding crypto, I don't see any news coming out of China as a threat at this point. I hope anyway...

The other meaning of the subtitle comes from that fact that this morning while I was pumping gas, I was the surprised viewer of an actual Bitcoin commercial.

I don't know if it is the same where you live, but about five years ago or so most gas stations started moving to these fancy new pumps that have video screens. While you are sitting there waiting for your tank to fill up, they play tech, sports, news, music snippets, and advertisements to keep you entertained.

This is a welcome addition for me, especially when I am standing there forever to fill the 37 gallon tank on my truck.

Anyway, this morning, I just caught the tail end of it, but there was an advertisement for a news service that they touted as "your place to go for cryptocurrency news" or something like that. I had actually never heard of the news outlet before which is surprising, but it was nice to see it being advertised none the less.

Just about a year or so ago Michigan where I live legalized recreational cannabis use. It was amazing how quickly billboards started popping up along the highway and other advertisements became so common. Even to the point of corporate sponsorship of concert venues (like I talked about in my post earlier this week). Ten years ago I would have laughed if you had told me I'd one day be seeing weed shop advertisements as I was driving down the road. Yet here we are!

I can see something similar happening with crypto currency and to some degree it already is. Select sports venues are starting to run ads for Coinbase, Crypto.com, and other crypto related companies. It is only a matter of time before we see crypto commercials on TV just like we do bank commercials.

Times are definitely changing, and I am so happy I am not going to be left behind on this one!

I know I usually bring you three topics, but my second one got a little winded, so I am only going to bug you with those two random thoughts today. Have an awesome weekend, you deserve it!
