Yesterday I posted about the rental markets and a comment by @r1s2g3 made me think about what cards could be good long-term investments? Let's say I have only a 3$ budget, what kind of cards can I find that I believe to gain in value and also help to get those chests?

I've chosen a low-budget angle to this post for the obvious reasons, markets are down and there are holes in my pockets too. So let's go shopping!

Mycelic Infantry

I want to highlight the Living Lava, an Untamed monster that has really gained some value since the release of Chaos Legion. Living Lava is a tank card with Shield ability and it's currently trading at $7.62.

In my opinion, Mycelic Infantry could very well be the next Living Lava. They have pretty similar stats and the same ability. Their difference is that the Earth unit is made to be a little harder nut to crack, while the Fire thing is one mana point cheaper. They both are excellent tank cards in the lower leagues.

So we'll be adding Mycelic Infantry to our shopping cart at the price of $0.15.

Xenith Monk

This Chaos Legion monster belongs to Neutral splinter so it can be used with any other splinter. For the best gameplay, I would buy 5 of them and upgrade to level 2 because then he will gain the Heal ability and for that reason, I think there will be a demand for Xenith Monk also in the future. Once the CL packs run out and players still want to upgrade, they will become more scarce.

Adding one Xenith Monk for *$0.63.

Battering Ram

Another Neutral monster, Battering Ram from the Dice edition is a cheap, cheap card! I am talking about its current market price as well as its mana price. Costing only 2 mana points, it's perfect for those low mana battles, and being a neutral unit, it can be used with all the other splinters.

Even though the base stats aren't that good it is very useful with its Opportunity ability when protected properly. I use it a lot with Tarsa who will give it +1 Melee and +1 Health.

Its current market value is $0.70 which makes it an absolute bargain.

Tusk The Wide

This big tank unit is a good alternative for Living Lava when you think you are up against a magic-using team. Tusk has a massive amount of health and the Void ability to reduce damage made by magic attacks. There are currently 25,000 cards in the circulation of this Epic monster.

At the moment, there isn't a lot of competition for Tusk in the Fire splinter in this price category and it could be that the demand for this card will rise in the future.

Buying one Tusk for $0.83.

Pelacor Arbalest

Something from the Life splinter next. Pelacor Arbalest is a Ranged unit with a Double Strike ability. When this is combined with General Sloans +1 ranged -buff, it can do a total of 6 damage in a single round.

Monsters' abilities can make them really useful and therefore valuable. Take a look at Mushroom Seer for instance. That Silence ability really makes it a game-changer.

I'm not comparing these two cards but I believe that this quite rare ability of the Arbalest will probably create some demand for this card also. Buying one till it's still cheap.

$0.20 paid for the Pelacor Arbalest.

Adding Up

These five cards would cost $2.51 at the current prices. There is still money left for a couple of cheap ones. Because of the huge supply, I'm not sure buying Reward cards is such a good investment if you are looking for them to gain value.

However, to boost your gameplay and therefore help to win more chests, I would consider these two: Djinn Chwala for $0.13 and Uraeus for $0.16. Both epic cards have many use cases and have improved my game considerably.

These would be my picks. What cards would you buy for $3?
