What kind of business can afford to flush its best product away?

What is Twitter's business?

Elon Musk asked "Is Twitter dying?"

In light of their treatment of my account, I'd say they're committing ESG driven suicide.

It seems to me that the business of the current crop of centralised social media sites is gathering together the freely given content of others and slapping adverts on it. That's the model.

There are attempts at adding subscriptions and other various revenue models, but nobody is really making a huge business of that.

I am freely aware of my lowly position as a dairy cow being milked by Twitter to provide the product to sell to those who buy advertising to put around what I tweet. I've been on the site since the end of 2008, I know a lot of people who are entertained or informed by what I've tweeted in the past.

As such I'm a product which Twitter should be making money on. Deleting me and my account from their platform is directly hurting their bottom line.

And what is Twitter full of? Bots, scams and porn. I was even reasonably attentive at reporting these (i.e. doing work for Twitter). Again Elon is well aware of this:

Now subtract crypto scam accounts that twitter constantly shows as “real” people in everyone’s feed

Meanwhile my posting of a Monty Python quote in reply to another Monty Python quote indicates clearly that I'm not a bot and I'm not replying to a bot but only if you are a sentient human with some form of grounding in a slightly older part of modern Western Culture. The problem is, if you're not grounded in the culture of the people you're trying to keep on your site, you'll destroy your own business.

Which seem to me exactly what the ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) movement by various huge investment firms will do. They will inject what I see as Marxist and Malthusian ideologies into investments. It's nothing short of a calamity of epic proportions. It remains to be seen what will survive this era and what will be destroyed.

Twitter used to be a fun place. They've sucked the joy out of it. I have plenty of ideas about making a short, pithy video directed at John Cleese and Elon Musk. I could pack it full of Monty Python quotes... my account is an ex Parrot after all, it is pushing up the daisies, it has gone to meet its maker and I certainly never expected the Spanish Inquisition when I joked about bollock removal.

But I can't be bothered. Why should I work for Twitter and Elon Musk? Maybe I'll change my mind (maybe you can all change it for me) or maybe, just maybe, someone will get Elon or Cleese or both to see this.

But until then, Twitter can carry on destroying shareholder value and hopefully driving people to realise they shouldn't be dairy cows on any of these legacy websites any more.

And now for something completely different

In other news, more and more people are discovering how they can move small amounts of Hive in and out of the booming Lightning Network via the Hive Lightning Bridge from @v4vapp lnd.v4v.app.
