I know using bots is a controversial sujbect but it never has been for me because with 5 years on this chain I never really knew what they were, only that they existed.

So recently I've been paying attention to a little more chatter about them, especially regarding splinterlands.

My history with splinterlands is that I bought some starter packs for steemmonsters when they dropped, couldn't figure out how to play and probably left a lot of money on the table.

The reason I say that is because I am the type that would have played my daily quests religously. I probably would not have gone further in the game but winning daily quests would have been quite a boon to me and it always bothered me that I couldn't figure out how to play. Remember, when I started there were few tutorials and I had never been into games like this. Space Invaders and Dig Dug were my jam.

Fast forward to the SPS airdrop starting and I just forced myself to learn to play. I had a decent collection power and figured out how to win some bronze battles. Good enough for me, I was having fun.

But since this last change I was not able to win a single focus chest or season chest. I think 2 full seasons had gone by and nothing. I had a bunch of Alpha Cards and Starter Cards.

I felt the game had kind of past me by and I stopped playing. I really have no idea how it can appeal to beginners anymore but then something happened. I started to bot!

I have an alt account on hive and had a spellbook so I signed up and went through the learning process. I'm a bronze fan and that is where my comfort zone was.

I learned to rent cards which taught me more about which ones to get, how the worked and why I needed them. I was spending money in the game. Even though it was the rental market, I was spending DEC for the first time.

I quickly began to yearn to own cards. Through bot play I learned which ones I wanted and began to feel an emotional attachments to certain ones I have used over the years but never thought of buying. For example I'm about to pull the trigger on an Ice Pixie.

As you can see from the image above I went from absolutely no chests of any kind to almost 50 season chests and an average of 7 focus chests per day.

I havent gotten anything good in my focus chests yet but opening them is a thrill and I love it. I'm actually getting obsessed with Splinterlands for the first time and this was a game that had totally lost me.

I'm not a gamer but I'm having fun. In my opinion Splinterlands is dead without an easy way for beginners to get started and hooked into the game. For me, it was the bot. I'm only playing a single account and doing it in bronze. I don't think I'm harming the ecosystem by doing that.
