I have never been a real fan of Twitter, I only recently got involved in it because that's where all the bitcoin banter and info is shared, and if you want to keep up to date that's where you go. Twitter might be the smallest of the social media apps in terms of users, but the type of users that excel on the platform and the speed at which information can be shared sets it apart from other services like Facebook and Instagram.

Now, most of the Twitter talk of late has been centered around the Elon takeover, which looks like it's all gone through and all about tying the bows and crossing the T's. Prior to the purchase, Twitter was a publically traded company with a board and shareholders and a distinct government overreach and left-leaning policies.

Like other Silicon Valley companies, it's been larping about free speech when it censors options that don't conform to the infantilizing of people and support of the state and certain progressive ideas.

That looks set to change with the takeover, but It's one thing to be one of the more popular users on the platform, it's another thing to run it, so what does Elon have planned.

Now that the dust is beginning to settle and the lib tears dry up, what can we look forward to seeing from Twitter?

Open source algos

Twitter, like all other social media, draws its feeds from a black box we are not privy to, or how it affects us. Since it's managed by a bunch of cry babies it only serves certain people, so Elon is opening it up to the people who can offer an opinion.

The algorithm, or the piece of code that determines the priority in which tweets get served up to users, will become “open source” or available for the public to view and improve upon.

This will give more oversight, allow people to provide commits, and help improve the way information is transferred on Twitter.

The eventual edit button

Twitter earlier said it is working on an edit button that would allow users to change tweets after they have been posted. Probably the most wanted feature on Twitter, and while it won't fix all the misspelled tweets it does make Twitter more user-friendly.

I only hope there is a notification of people who have changed tweets or a log so people don't try to double back, we want to see their shitfuckery.

Battle against bots

If you've used Twitter and mentioned the word Bitcoin you would know how bad spambots are, it's really killing the platform and scamming dumbasses out of money. To stop spam, instead of the find and flag model, Elon proposed solution is to authenticate “all real humans” or to have accounts with KYC overtly linked to other personal identifiers, whether it be a phone number, and email address, or a photo.

Now I am not a fan of this, I think it could be done better by connecting public and private key pairs, authenticating a bitcoin wallet for example with a balance, or uploading a few sats to a custodial account that can be taken from you should you spam would be a better option.

Twitter DM end to end encryption

Twitter has always been able to read people's DMs, download the logs for review, capture data from it to add to its algos, and use it as a basis to spot people they plan to ban in the future. Saying things on a public forum like your wall is one thing, but in the DM, you should have a little more privacy don't you think?

Having real end-to-end encryption means more people can use Twitter as a real messaging platform and could bring people into the ecosystem, it's also safer for journalists, who often use Twitter to communicate and could be something that helps twitter compete with the likes of signal and WhatsApp.

Twitter has a new lease on life

I personally thought when Jack left, that it was a sign he accepted that Twitter is going downhill. His admittance to wanting to start an open-source version known as Blue Sky is evidence of his views.

Now that Elon is in charge I think they could turn a corner, I am sure his open to feedback from Jack on things he wanted that the board wouldn't allow previously and I am pretty bullish on the future of Twitter.
