It already has 6,129 nodes currently running and 31 338 payment channels open, and yes it's small but its already far bigger than a lot of altcoins networks.

The tech is still pretty raw but lightning labs is doing some cool stuff, their liquidity pool has launched recently called "LI-FI" and the OMNI stable coin should be live next year.
