El Salvador and Bitcoin: adoption continues
El Salvador has formalized the legality of using Bitcoin as a digital currency and therefore it is possible to pay for any service, from shopping in the markets to bills, from gasoline to coffee at the bar. A little big breakthrough that is showing how adoption is in full progress and all this is starting from small countries, those that economically enjoy a certain freedom from the large financial mechanism that has often penalized them.
If you can't fight it, then adopt it!
The government has made it mandatory to accept payments via Bitcoin but merchants are free to decide whether to accept cryptocurrencies or the equivalent in dollars. Chivo, the government wallet, allows users to process transfers in both BTC and US dollars. The wallet is operated in partnership with Mexican cryptocurrency exchange Bitso, which claims to partner with California-based bank Silvergate, which facilitates USD-denominated transactions.
The app also allows merchants to automatically convert received Bitcoins into dollars. The government has therefore not only made the use of Bitcoin legal in purchases but has also provided a tool, the Chivo wallet, so that consumers and merchants are facilitated in the management of their capital.
Immediately following the legalization of Bitcoin by the government, the 19 McDonald's locations in the country allow purchases to be made through the Lightning Network, providing a QR code for payments through cryptocurrencies. A strong signal from one of the most popular and radicalized companies in the world that shows how much big companies are interested in cryptocurrencies and how this obstacle is purely political.
At the source of this decision, the government wants to attract companies interested in the sector and willing to invest in their territory, capital available to distribute to its citizens and encourage a sustained economic recovery that brings well-being for all. A project that is certainly very interesting and that has already been pursued by other countries such as Cuba and in Europe it seems that Ukraine is also facing the process to legalize Bitcoin and allow payments through cryptocurrency.
The engine of adoption has now started and it is no longer possible to turn it off, and like the power of a black hole, it is attracting more and more institutions and government bodies, a slow but inexorable process and the first effects are clearly visible. Currently the market seems not to be interested in all this but it is only a speculative maneuver by the big whales to accumulate as many Bitcoins as possible. Bitcoin will likely be used across much of the planet over the years and news like this will cause much less hype and do you know why? The reason is that mass adoption will now have become normal, certainly with the introduction of restrictive regulations to avoid market manipulation or illegal use of cryptocurrencies. Adoption will involve changes, it is inevitable and we should all get over it, for better or for worse.

Una piccola grande svolta che sta dimostrando come l'adozione è in pieno progresso e tutto ciò sta partendo dai piccoli paesi, quelli che economicamente godono di una certa libertà dal grande meccanismo finanziario che spesso li ha penalizzati.

Il governo ha reso obbligatorio l'accettazione dei pagamenti tramite Bitcoin ma gli esercenti sono liberi di decidere se accettare la cryptovalute oppure l'equivalente in dollari. Chivo, il wallet governativo, consente agli utenti di elaborare i trasferimenti sia in BTC che in dollari USA. Il wallet è gestito in collaborazione con l'exchange di criptovalute messicano Bitso, che afferma di collaborare con la banca californiana Silvergate, che facilita le transazioni denominate in USD.
L'app consente inoltre ai commercianti di convertire automaticamente i Bitcoin ricevuti in dollari. Il governo ha quindi non solo reso legale l'utilizzo di Bitcoin negli acquisti ma ha fornito anche uno strumento, il wallet Chivo, affinché consumatori e commercianti siano facilitati nella gestione del loro capitale.
Subito dopo la legalizzazione di Bitcoin da parte del governo, le 19 sedi McDonald's nel paese permettono di effettuare acquisti tramite Lightning Network, fornendo un codice QR per i pagamenti tramite la cryptovalute. Un segnale forte da parte di una delle aziende più popolari e radicalizzate in tutto il globo che dimostra quanto le grandi aziende siano interessate alle cryptovalute e come questo ostacolo sia puramente politico.
Alla fonte di questa deciso, il governo vuole attirare aziende interessate al settore e disponibili ad investire nel proprio territorio, capitale disponibile da distribuire ai suoi cittadini e incentivare una ripresa economica sostenuta che porti benessere per tutti. Un progetto sicuramente molto interessante e che è già stato perseguito da altri paesi come Cuba e in Europa sembra che anche l'Ucraina stia affrontando l'iter per legalizzare Bitcoin e consentire i pagamenti tramite la cryptovaluta.
Il motore dell'adozione è ormai partito e non è più possibile spegnerlo, e come la potenza di un buco nero, sta attraendo sempre più istituzioni ed enti governativi, un processo lento ma inesorabile e i primi effetti sono ben visibili. Attualmente il mercato sembra non essere interessato a tutto ciò ma è solo una manovra speculativa da parte delle grandi balene per accumulare quanti più Bitcoin possibili. Negli anni Bitcoin sarà probabilmente utilizzato nella gran parte del pianeta e notizie come questa susciteranno molto meno clamore e sapete perché? Il motivo è che l'adozione di massa sarà ormai diventato normalità, sicuramente con l'introduzione di normative restrittive per evitare manipolazioni di mercato oppure utilizzo non legale delle cryptovalute. L'adozione prevederà dei cambiamenti, è inevitabile e tutti noi dovremmo farcene una ragione, nel bene e nel male.
