Opened Two new positions February.

After closing so many positions and getting some dry powder, I decided to take a look at a few of my tracking lists to see what was looking promising.

AT&T Position

I have been tracking AT&T through several cycles over the year. While they struggle like most big media and cell companies with a cyclical business and strong competition but I think they are in a good position for long term success.

Why AT&T? They pay a decent dividend. Anytime they go over 5% I start to consider them as an option, for both the dividend return and the expected share price return.

Here is a look at the historical dividend yield over the past 5 years.

Here it my position - I had a my 5% stop loss trigger, but I sill want to be in the position so I had to re-enter

DateTradeShare PriceDividend YieldGain/(Loss)
Feb 05 2021Buy28.967.19%
Feb 26 2021Sell28.03-3.21%
Mar 03 2021Buy28.247.24%
CurrentHold29.816.98%5.5%No Stop Loss
Net1.35%

I think AT&T has a good run ahead of them, and can give me some really good returns in both share price and dividends. I there is a good chance to keep having share price growth while collecting dividends that will return over a 7% on my cost.

IBM Trade

IBM is the first stock I ever owned. I had some gifted to me by a grandfather when I was in high school. I have not owned it since they stopped making personal PC's but think they are well positioned for growth.

IBM has traditionally paid a small dividend, but from memory it was always under 4% and I typically ended up picking other stocks. After reading some analysts opinions on projected growth, plus a dividend yield that moved to over 5% had me interested.

IBM Positions -

DateTradeShare PriceDividend YieldGain/(Loss)
Feb 10 2021Buy121.795.33%
Position Total4.11%

Pretty Good Start to this trade already - but honestly I should start to measure this against the the returns of a total market index to get a better idea of my performance. Might be a bit much for each trade, but could provide me some valuable insight if I should continue individual stock buying.

One more victim to my trailing stop loss risk mitigation

I also got stopped out of BHC - that I had to enter back into to keep my open position a few days later. Price increased on me so I had a little bit of slippage and created a hold for BCH holding. This is story worth telling - never get married to your investments. That is for another day.
