Heavy with Dry Powder - Struggling to Find the Right Opportunity.

source I feel like I am wondering around the market, with a pocket full of cash but no real plan. While this can be a fun way to spend an afternoon, and lead to some interesting experiences, this is not an approach I like when it comes to investing.

Having 33% of my trading portfolio in cash is not ideal. While I do like to keep 10-15% depending on timing to take advantage or opportunities, this much is dragging me down. There is benefits to having cash - I have missed other opportunities for lack of cash, having to try to sell and get settlement prior to trading.

I usually have a number of stocks I am tracking, and think have good potential, but after my recent buys of IBM, and T, I already feel I took the cream off the top. I am sure there are other trades out there, but I haven't found one yet that really feels right. Here are a few ideas I am thinking about.

  • Silver - either SLV or PSLV. Silver is getting close to its support and I think it might continue its upward run. I know the paper market is always disconnected from physical but short supply and choppy numbers might let it grow over $30 soon.

  • LUMN - Pays a great dividend rate over 7%, but after getting trapped a few times in the past with companies that have so much debt and high dividends makes me a little wary.

  • SNE - If the only place to find a new PlayStation is the black market - for a premium I think it bodes well for Sony here. I can't tell if the shortage is high demand or more the shortage of chip production impacting several sectors.

  • Hotel REIT's - Looking more for Room Renters like APLE than those that cater to events like RHP. While I think meeting spaces will have demand in the future, I am not sure when/what it will look like and if how it will shake out. I am already holding PK, might have enough exposure there.

  • VYGVF - Got to have something in here that relates to crytpo - and this seems like an interesting position to take. I need to keep digging on them, but it might be worth a small flyer for fun either way.

The market has had such a move - I am not sure where the best place is. I am having a hard time finding a company I think is undervalued. This is likely just due to the fact everything is up so much after the crash - I may have to consider parking it an index for while I keep looking.
