CoinTelegraph wrote an article about Web5. Wait, 5? No 4? Huh?

There are some good points in it: a recap of Web 1 and 2 as well as a nice overview of Web3. But, it mentions Ethereum, EOS, and, ready for this one?, Tron as leading the charge to Web3!

Umm, Hive.

In the Web3 explanation section, two parts jumped out to me.

Snippet from the article, [source](https://cointelegraph.com/news/web5-vs-web3-the-future-is-a-process-not-a-destination).

I think most Hivers would agree that the two things highlighted from the article above sound awfully familiar.

  1. No one runs it, dapps built on top, no data collection, no censorship.
  2. You can send funds person-to-person.

Umm, Hive!

It's here, it's live, and it's easy.

Web5

I'd not previously heard of Web5, nor the skipped Web4 (which evidently is just Web3 on mobile). It seems, "Web5" has to do with human emotions. It's to have Webs 1 through 4, but somehow the tech interacts with our emotions.

So, I understand Web5 would work like this...

  • My favorite team lost.
  • My phone reads my face, sees disappointment, then shoots me a text saying...
  • ..."Hey @crrdlx, I know your team lost, but you're awesome! ❤️❤️❤️"

Not sure if I like that or if I'm creeped out about it.

Conclusion

Anyway, the article wrote this about Web5:

...this is why Web5 will focus on decentralizing identity, data storage, as well as its applications.

Umm, Hive.

So, does this mean Hive is actually Web5 without the creepiness?

Hive5!
