Cryptoassets networks can be divided into five (5) categories which are based on the types of users they address. The fundamental sectors identify the solutions provided by the individual ecosystems.

Sector Categories

  • Infrastructure - Serves the protocol foundation for various use-cases

  • Currency - Principally used as money, payments, and store of value.

  • Financial - Networks dedicated to crypto assets financial services

  • Services - Specific applications implemented on blockchain networks.

  • Media and entertainment - From social networks, gaming to content generation.

Sectors/Real-world Applications

1 Currency:

Decentralized currencies (also known as cryptocurrencies) operate as money and stores of value. They are globally accessible and controlled by no single entity or group, or middlemen such as BTC, ETH, BNB, ADA, and many more.

2 Platform payments:

Payment platforms are focused on payments, often for a specific use or industry. Some Blockchain-based payment platforms attempt to integrate multiple Blockahin assets into one platform for ease of payment, possibly employing smart contracts for more complex applications.

3 Interoperability:

Interoperability-focused Blockchain provides services that can link one chain to another. These are often intended as core chains or platforms on which more extensive ecosystems of more use-case-specific chains can operate together, E.G Wanchain.
