source Car insurance I normally save around 20% just by having an advanced drivers licence which has saved me thousands over the years.

Every couple of years I spend a few hours getting quotations on the various insurances like contents, buildings and the car. I also have to get new pricing on the armed response security we have in place. This is something we should all be doing regularly as it literally saves you hundreds of $$$ each year. Most of you don't have to worry about security like we do as our Police force is corrupt and sub standard.

My new security firm not only offers security, but medical assistance and if required an escort to and from the bank. That would be handy for businesses dealing with cash. They are all ex military and are a standard above what we have had before.

About 10 years ago I was about to change our armed response and was offered a new package deal with the existing security company at half the price. This time i expect a bigger saving than normal as our provider has changed 3 times in the last 6 months as other firms have been buying each other out. I started with Chubb and ended up with ADT who are not great, but also expensive so there is already a $30 per month saving. The old provider requires 1 months notice and has taken 3 phone calls for the correct email address to cancel as they are trying to drag me into the new month which is typical.

Household content insurers will stick up the premiums every year and blame it in inflation which this year I can imagine is very true. The funny things is a prerequisite is to have an armed response contract in place for having household cover other wise they wont cover you.

In the last 10 years we have been hit by lightning twice and had storm damage with a leaking roof 3 years ago. The insurers bitched saying I was a serial claimer and another reason to move. Today they asked why I was cancelling the contract and they were as sweet as pie trying to get me to stay. They will always try and screw you over when you need them so there is no loyalty as they have been screwing me for plenty over the years with inflated premiums and high excess charges.

2 weeks ago I damaged my laptop with a cup of coffee and laptops being portable are not covered. I have been meaning to have these insured for years, but never got round to doing it.

Today's quote with the new company covers my contents at an increased value of another $60K bringing it to around $120K plus all the laptops and I am still paying less than I was before with the other company. They are increasing their monthly installments by another $10 in August so this is good timing.

The total saved just by making a few phone calls is just on $100 per month and all it cost me was the time. This is roughly what I expected and will find more when I clear the bond/mortgage later this year and do the buildings insurance. I am looking forward to having no bond/mortgage as that takes a huge strain off monthly expenses.

With the economy the way it is finding any extras is always a worthwhile exercise and very few people do this. They say if you look after the cents the dollars will look after themselves and this is so true.
