It seems as though things are getting back to normal as the airlines are gearing up for summer. 17 000 flights in the air in this image taken yesterday including a few of the 682 aircraft Russia stole and have since changed their registration identification numbers.

The new registration with RA depicting Russian Aviation Authority which is meaningless as they are not properly certified.

Most of these planes were registered in Bermuda and were leased from companies in the West which was convenient for tax purposes only. These planes will never be able to fly abroad as they will be impounded as soon as they land. Russia plans to service them with what they have on hand and no one knows if they can maintain the stolen bounty or not. 682 planes is a large number meaning they need a shed load of spare parts just to maintain them.

The 17 000 planes in the air still amazes me though as the economies around the world are not back to normal, yet the airlines expect everyone to still be going on holiday. I wish I could afford one, but the reality is the business has to come first and I don't believe in credit. If you can't afford something then don't borrow as I seriously think we are not out the woods yet. I see myself as middle class and the funds I have stashed away is not going to be wasted on a holiday anytime soon.

I have seen no signs in our economy that gets me jumping up and down as in general terms everyone is struggling. The numbers are down across the board and I do fear that many businesses are only putting on a brave front for now. When you know house hold names from around the world based here are doing 50% of the turnover they were 3 years ago then this is still on a knife edge. One would expect them to show signs of life first and nothing has improved this year so far.

Next week petrol prices are expected to increase in South Africa by around 14% as the Government kindly announced they would remove their subsidy as they have so little funds. This means everything is going up as everything we purchase or travel by uses fuel. The cost of getting to work will hit certain families far harder who are already on the brink.

Many I believe are being lulled into a false sense of security as they are not aware of how bad things really are. I can understand the airlines promoting business as they are the ones who are very desperate to regain some lost revenue. I just have to think back to the first Christmas during lockdowns and how many people travelled internally to the coast for a break. How many of those people now who are struggling to make ends meet or have lost their jobs?

Just today my doctor friend told me he is doing monthly shopping as they have had to cut back and that is from a house hold of two professionals. the cost of living is increasing at an alarming rate yet salaries and take home pay are stagnant. I just cannot comprehend a bumper summer holiday season as where is the money coming from?
