Removing the downvote option would be an absolute disaster!

We can speak of "freedom" to our hearts' content, but no matter what kind of system you set up — from this blockchain social channel to a neighborhood farmer's market — if there are no "rules" to discourage manipulative behavior and exploitation, you end up with absolute chaos!

It's nice to speculate on how a community should "self-regulate," but the reality of how (some) human beings operate is that it's a very quick trip to a toxic variation of Gresham's Law... in this case, if spammers and plagiarizers were left unchecked, they would soon enough cause the legitimate content creators to leave in disgust, leaving behind a mess nobody but the spammers and abusers would want to be part of.

You'd have all the "freedom" you could ask for... AND you would have a token worth $0.00000001 to show for it!
