Curator Cat Considers Communities: Sometimes It's Hard to Keep Up With it All!

Greetings amazing Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding Communities!

As winter comes about and the Hoomans are spending more time indoors, I am having hopes that I will have more time to pursue "other things" with my blog here! You see, as a cat I need Hooman help to create blog posts because I haven't quite gotten the "opposable thumbs" thing figured out.

Even "serious" posts can be a vehicle for sharing cat photos!

But I'm hopeful!

Anyway, Virtual Communities — how to build them, how to maintain them, how to make them successful, how to keep them interesting — has long been a fascinating topic for me.

In our increasingly virtual worlds — call it "Web 3.0" or the "Metaverse" or whatever you will — having an understanding of communities and how they work is becoming increasingly important.

Being thoughtful in the hallway...

Hive: A Cornucopia of Communities!

Just in the short time we have had Hive — as "Hive" — a huge number of communities have been created! As I was considering the challenge of visiting some/many/all of them just to see what they are about, I quickly realized just how huge the Community Landscape has grown.

I think back to the earliest communities and what a fledgling but promising feature it was, at the time. I became part of PALNet, Creative Coin and SteemLEO almost immediately... three that have remained "near and dear," even through the winds of change. Today, of course, it is called "LeoFinance" and is possibly Hive's "flagship" example of what a sidechain community can be turned into.

I do enjoy my afternoon sunny naps!

So MANY Good Ideas...

I found myself recently just looking at all the tokens that now trade (or WANT to trade) on Hive-Engine and the substantial number that now serve as rewards, specific to particular communities.

Then I look at my Hive-Engine wallet and am amazed by the fact that there are 50 assets listed there, and I don't even know what half of them ARE!

So what sets a great idea apart from a merely good idea or a fair idea or even a completely useless idea? And I'm not talking about investing here, I'm purely considering the tokens attached to actual Communities.

I can't keep up with it all!

Should I?

Trying to formulate a plan and make a decision!

The "Dilution" Problem

Truth is, I probably shouldn't. Very few — if anybody — should.

Even those who might be described as "polymaths" wouldn't be able to adequately keep update and informed about everything. Even top movie critics don't see all movies made...

With respect to Communities, however, it can be tempting to chase after every seemingly great idea that comes down the pike, but sooner (rather than later) you run into the reality that you have so many things on your plate that you just don't have the time or bandwidth to pay adequate attention to ANY of them."

The same applies to communities, themselves.

For example, after the 5th or 6th "cooking channel" you reach a saturation point at which even the most dedicated contributors can't keep up... and then everybody suffers because "the next great foodie idea" is actually superfluous, rather than great.

We have so much "proof of..." in the cryptosphere... how about "Proof of Cat?"

Stick to What GENUINELY Interests You!

Much as I'd like to test out a myriad different communities in the Extended World of Hive, I just don't have the time to do so.

And chances are, neither do YOU, even if you got some "interesting sounding tokens airdropped!

Sure, we can look at all this purely from the financial incentive angle, but for the vast majority of us this is also supposed to be fun; our recreation and entertainment!

Taking on too much, and then flaming out isn't good for anyone.

So... I'm just going to poke around in a few of the many amazing communities we have here... and be happy with that!

Thanks for stopping by!

CuratorCat out... till the next time

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communties!

If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?

These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Remember, you can also "cross-post" your cat posts to them!

HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!

Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!

Caturday Community by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!

Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS! It has a lot of subscribers but is not very active.

Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community; it's there, but not very active.

Last, but certainly not least, a special shoutout to the recently formed Hive Pets Community which has become quite active and has quite a bit of cat content!

There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!
