A Little Fun on a Friday

Yesterday I "bumped into" someone from a community I haven't visited for a while. #blockchainpoets to be exact (might as well give a shout out while I'm here). Anyway, back when I first started on steemit over five years ago, I joined up with a few poetry communities. I have always enjoyed poetry and have written quite a few poems myself, so when I realized I could actually get them on the blockchain for future generations of my family to read someday, I really thought it was cool.
When the whole flag-wars thing happened and the markets tanked, I left for a couple years and washed my hands of it all. It wasn't until Bitcoin started coming back that I took an interest again. At that point, I had no clue what had happened with steemit and Hive so I dug out one of the few people I actually liked interacting with back in the day, @moeknows, and started asking questions. He gave me the cliff-notes, told me to focus on Hive instead of steem, pointed me at LeoFinance, and the rest is history. I've been here ever since.
Going back in time got me to thinking about what I was writing about and thinking back then. It's been an amazing road so far and the ground that's been covered over the last five years is incredible. Especially since the fork. I'm sure many of you have even better stories to tell and reminisce about. But what really got me thinking is what it will be like looking back at now in another 10 years.
It's crazy how seeing the articles I wrote and the poems I published are just little blips on the screen when I look at them now. I can go through three months worth of time in a couple minutes. Meanwhile, I sit here spending hours writing and thinking and commenting and now threading each day and the progress seems to be moving at a crawl. I watch the price of $Hive and $Leo and $Cub move a penny or a tenth of a penny and it all registers. Each little tick one way or the other. I want it to go higher so things are worth more but I want it to go lower so I can get more. It's a crazy yoyo back and forth while everything builds slowly behind the scenes.
But in 10 years, it will all be different. I don't know what it will look like, but it certainly won't be anywhere near what it looks like now.
Imagine the "network-state" @taskmaster4450 talks about in one of his recent posts. Tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of people all in this community, using dApps of all shapes and sizes, in a thriving economy based on $Hive and $HBD. Transactions in the millions as people from all over the world run their daily lives on the network. From checking in with the friends and family on LeoThreads, to checking their finances on LeoFinance, to shopping on various commerce dApps, to watching videos of their loved ones on #3spk, to playing a game or six, to reading about current events, and everything else under the sun. Booking travel, getting tickets to shows or athletic events, ordering pizza, all of it could be here by then or coming #soon. And all of it will be available on your phone, or a watch, or your glasses, whatever. It's pretty crazy to think about.
At that point, the fun I was talking about in my title, will be going back and reading some of the things we're writing about today. Getting excited when $Hive goes from 35 to 40 cents. Getting depressed when $CUB goes from 2.1 cents to 1.9. Hotly debating the latest proposals on #splinterlands and what they'll do to the economy. lol
Hopefully by that time Hive will be firmly established as one of the best blockchains (and networks) in existence and watching it move up or down a dollar or two won't even move the needle. LeoFinance will be the "Everything" dApp @Khal and Co are in the process of building, and CUB will be synonymous with defi, stability and fantastic returns. Splinterlands will be a massive network of media, advertising, and professional game-play with millions (billions?) of dollars captured in its tokens, NFTs, and streaming networks, not to mention world-wide tournaments and prizes.
It's all happening as we speak. We just need to keep our heads down and keep building. The road has been long but the ecosystem continues to build and grow and if we as the community continue to build and grow along with it, I firmly believe some of these dreams will become reality, and we'll all have a good laugh quoting these old posts from whichever beach or mountaintop we're sitting on.
Hive is the Way.
