Definitely the cheapest way to do it is through Bittrex in the US. You can buy HIVE directly from a debit card through your bank. And then the transfer over to HIVE only costs .01 HIVE!! Yes, you read that right: .01 HIVE is the transfer fee no matter how much you send. Plus, it usually takes a whole 3 minutes to do once you've got your account set up. In fact, many times I've had to actually wait a few seconds to transfer the HIVE because it won't let me transfer in the first 2 minutes after buying it.

That said, there is one BIG negative about Bittrex. For some reason, they like to put HIVE in maintenance mode and then you can't transfer it in or out. For example, I bought a bunch over the last couple months and had no problems. Then all of a sudden about a month ago now, they put it in maintenance mode and it's been that way ever since. I've got a bunch stuck over there right now that I wanted to get over for the airdrop snapshots and couldn't.

I ended up selling some into USD and then buying LTC and bringing it over that way, but it cost me about 50-60 HIVE for the 1000 I moved compared to .01 if I could have just moved it directly.

So, to make a long story short, it's definitely the easiest and cheapest when it's not in maintenance mode, but you definitely need to make sure it's not before doing anything or it could be stuck there for a while. Like I said, it's going on a month right now. I expect it to come out any day now but....definitely something you have to pay attention to.
