Hey Everyone! Back again with another week in the rearview mirror. That's one week closer to Land in my book. As always, lots to talk about. So without further ado....

Chaos Legion Packs have Officially Sold Out

It only took about 9 months, multiple "sales" and promotions, a burn mechanic, and a final prize-filled push towards the finish line, but it's over. If you want to buy a Chaos Legion pack, you'll have to do it on the secondary market.

Regardless of whether you thought the price of $4 was too high, there were too many packs(15M) in the sale, or the timing was terrible (we've basically been stuck in crypto winter since release), there is one inescapable fact about Chaos Legion: it was wildly successful. Even with everything mentioned, well over 10M packs were sold raising millions of dollars for the company and the cards themselves are some of the best in the game. While the value of the cards has definitely dropped from beginning to end, they are starting to creep up again and now that the packs are gone, there will probably be some more upward pressure. Especially with the Land whitepaper coming #soon and Land staking set to begin in Q2. Speaking of Land...

Land Whitepaper

We are not-so-patiently awaiting the release of the whitepaper providing much-anticipated details as to what staking will look like on plots, among other things. @Aggroed & @yabatmatt were both hoping to have it out yesterday but it is obviously not done yet. Personally, while I can't wait to see it, I really feel it needs to be as "complete" as possible before release. There are a ton of decisions Landholders are going to have to make based upon what's in that paper, so if it's incomplete or there end up being a bunch of changes down the road, there are going to be a lot of frustrated people. I'd rather have the frustration be in the waiting rather than in still not knowing how things are going to work. As I pointed out last week, just for staking monsters alone there are a ton of variables to be addressed. For example:

  • Sets. What will the bonuses be for using Alpha vs Beta vs Untamed vs Chaos?
  • Foil. Regular foil vs Goldfoil. Will a Goldfoil Chaos be better than a Regular Alpha?
  • Scarcity. How will Commons vs Rares vs Epics vs Legendaries be tied in?
  • Levels. Will a level 3 Legendary regular foil Alpha be better than a Maxed Chaos Goldfoil Epic?
  • BCX. It's been said that the Alpha/Beta commons that max out at 505 BCX will be better than Untamed/Chaos that max out at 400 BCX. How will that play out and what will the differences be?
  • Titles
  • Totems
  • Runis
  • Did I miss any?

Do you get where I'm coming from? There are literally thousands of variables when you put together all the different combinations that are possible. At the same time, the rules have to be such that lower level players can actually accomplish something on their plot(s), while at the same time, whales can't simply dominate every aspect of the Land game with superior finances. On the flip-side, it has to be attractive for the whales to invest while also being reasonable for the little guys to contribute and earn.

The balancing act required here is going to be like walking Niagara Falls on a tightrope. With no pole. lol I don't envy the team trying to figure this all out. One thing I can 100% guarantee will happen once this is finally released. There will be a LOT of bitching in MavChat after it's release.

Speaking of bitching...(my segues are good today) :-)

New Energy System

No sooner had the celebration of the end of Chaos Legion started than the team announced a New Energy System for Ranked Battles here. The current ECR system is going to be replaced by a new system that is similar to what a lot of other games use. I'm not going to go into the details (you can read the linked post for those), but I will say that the chat has lots of complaining. In a nutshell, instead of playing down your ECR and receiving percentages of your rewards based on the number you're at, you will instead have a straight number of 50 that will go down one for every battle and recharge at exactly 1 per hour. You will receive 100% of the rewards you win as there are no longer percentages but will basically be capped at 24 battles per day if you want to recharge back to full every day. That said, you will be able to buy a recharge up to 50 using DEC, the price of which will scale based on what League you are currently in. The higher the League, the more expensive it will be.

At this point, the change is slated to go live Tuesday, March 21st, but, as I said, there is a lot of complaining going on in chat over what these changes will mean. There are some very valid points and some others that are not. With ten days to hash things out, there is a legitimate shot there may be a tweak or two put in place before it's released. We'll see. Personally, I think 24 battles a day is plenty for the majority of players who are trying to enjoy the game and earn a little something on the side. For serious farmers that are trying to make an actual income playing the game, it might be a little different. Once again, bots seem to be at the root of the dissension. We'll see how it shakes out over the next 10 days.

That's it for now on the news side of things. As for me, I managed to win my first Champion League battles this week. I made it into Champion with over five days left in the season and decided to keep going. Right now I'm sitting just under a 3800 rating so...so far so good. I'm just trying to stay here til the end of the season and win some daily Champion chests for those Soulbound Rewards.

Which leads to my weekly update. I've actually had a pretty decent week. Still no GFLs but I did manage to get a couple regular Legendaries. Currently I have:

  • 674 RF Commons; 34 GF. (8 out of 12 have cards. 4 with zero.)
  • 160 RF Rares; 3 GF. (1 out of 12 have cards. 11 with zero.)
  • 18 RF Epics (6/7 have cards); 2 GF. (1 out of 7 have cards. 6 with zero.)
  • 10 RF Legendaries (5/12 have cards); 0 GF. (0 out of 12 have cards.)

Totals: 862 RF; 39 GF.

I didn't buy much this week. Just a card here or there to get me to a number to combine. The rental market is going through some upheaval with the implementation of the 1 DEC listing fee so I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out the best approach there.

We're quickly approaching another season end. Happy Battling and may the RNG be in your favor because it certainly hasn't been in mine. lol
