Unlike your traditional media that has only one way and one interface to interact with, Hive offers a multiple of them, allowing you the freedom to choose your favorite one. Some of them filter out the content and focus just on a specific content.

Using Hive, for me personally, just made me realized how much constrained we are on traditional web2 apps like twitter. I use multiple frontends on Hive for different purpose and really like the freedom to shift between them and select what I want.

Let’s take a look of the posting on the top hive frontends and their individual share.

source

We all know blogging dApps are not the only ones build on Hive. Games are taking advantage of the Hive blockchain and we are already seeing more of them build each day. Splinterlands opened the gate for games on Hive, and now we have many more.

Here we will only be looking only into the blogging apps:

  • Hive.blog
  • Peakd
  • Ecency
  • LeoFinance
  • 3Speak
  • dBuzz
  • Actifit

The period that will be analyzed is March 2020 to March, 2022.

We will also rank the top frontends by number of in the last 30 days.

Hive.Blog

The generic Hive frontend. Its open source as well. Here is the chart.

We can see and increase in the numbers of post at first in March 2020, right after the Hive hardfork. When Hive started some of the other frontends needed some time to move, and maybe because of this the majority of the posting was through hive.blog. Afterwards there was a drop in the posts, with record lows at the end of 2020, and increase in the begging of 2021. Since then the number of posts coming from hive.blog have been in a range of 800 to 1200 per day.

Peakd

According to a lot of users one of the best frontends for Hive.
Here is the chart.

Peakd has seen a general uptrend in the period, especially in the last 2021. There is a different trend then the one on hive.blog and Peakd.com is now number one posting frontend for Hive. The Peakd team has done a great job improving the site and hope more to come in 2022.

Ecency

Ecency has been around for a long time as well. They have a very good frontend as well. Some say it is the fastest ones. One the best apps included.

Ecency has seen the highest increase in the numbers of posts from the top three. After August 2021 the numbers increased significantly from under 500 to almost a 1000 posts per day. In the last period there is around 800 posts per day.

LeoFinance

The chart for LeoFInance.

We can see a nice uptrend here at first reaching a top in March 2021 with 250 posts per day and then a drop to around 150 posts per day, that have been quite constant in the last year.
Trend most likely connected to the price of the LEO token.

3Speak

The number of posts/videos from the Hive video platform.

The video platform on Hive, 3Speak. Some volatility here, but overall, an uptrend in the last period.
In 2020 and 2021 there was somewhere around 130 posts per day, but then at the end of 2021 the numbers increased to 300 and now are back to around 200 posts per day.

dBuzz

The chart for the Hive blockchain twitter, a shortform frontend.

dBuzz is a short form application and we can see quite a growth in 2021. A top was reached in October 2021 and since then the number of posts from the app has been in decline.

Actifit

Another short form app.

Actifit is one of the first Hive apps. It is a fitness app where users share their step counts per day. Quite a steady number of posts from Actifit with numbers in the range of 200 to 250 posts per day.

Number Of Posts From All Hive Frontends

Here is the chart for all the Hive frontends posts per day combined.

We can notice that Peakd has increased its share in the overall period, while hive.blog has declined a bit. Ecency has seen a nice growth and is now around the same level as hive.blog. These three apps contains around ¾ of all the posting on Hive, while the others are ¼ of the posts.

Cumulative there is an uptrend for the numbers of posts on Hive.

Top Hive Frontends In The Last Month

Here is the chart for the overall number of posts from the top Hive frontends for March 2022

Peakd is the most used Hive frontend now by far. It has surpassed the Hive.Blog frontend by a lot. A 40k to 21k posts in the period. Its not even that close.
What interesting Ecency has also surpassed hive.blog, although just by a small margin and it is now second hive posting frontend. Hive.blog is now on the third position.

It is great to see the multiple options and frontends come in play and been used. Years ago on the old blockchain the majority of posting was made from one frontend only. Now we have three major frontends that are been used by a wider public and lot more that have a significant numbers of posts and users. Overall there was more then 80 frontends that were used to posts on the hive blockchain in March 2022.

All the best
