Few weeks ago I posted What Is The Best Time To Post On Hive? Data On Days and Hours When Hivers Post.

Some of the comments of the post were, ok but what is the data about votes? When Hivers vote? Is it identical to the posting times?

This is an interesting point so here we go. Data about when Hivers vote.

Here we will take a look when hivers vote. What day of the week and what hour of the week. At the end a heatmap will be presented.

A comparison will be made between the voting and the posting times as well.

We will be looking at the past four weeks period starting from May 11 through June 7.

The time is in UTC. You can compare it with your local time zone here: https://time.is/UTC

Days

First let’s take a look at the days.
What days of the week Hivers vote the most?

Interesting Sunday and Monday are the days with the largest numbers of votes for this four weeks period. Although overall the difference in the numbers of votes on daily level is in the range of 10%.
Friday and Saturday are days with the least numbers of votes.

Hours

Now that we have seen the days data, lets take a look at the hours. What time of the day Hivers vote the most?

Note that this is UTC time.

A bigger difference can be seen here, ranging from 207k to 307k, a 50% difference.
The biggest numbers of votes are made around 14h and 15h and again around 21h. The low numbers are in the period between 1h and 3h.

Heatmap

Combing the days and hours and we get the heat map.
It looks like this.

As seen from the above the hours pop up more here 14-15h with the most intensity. No significant difference in the days, just maybe a slight increase for Sunday and Monday. The record high is on Monday at 14h. The record low is Saturday at 2h.

Votes and Posts Comparison

As said above I have made a post on posting time, so we can now compare the two. Are the timings similar for the both sets of data?

The data for the post is two weeks before the voting data so its not the exact same period analyzed. There is a two weeks overlap only, but we can use this one for now. Maybe a follow up in the future with the exact same period will be made.

Days

The comparison for votes and posts time data per day looks like this.

As we can see the numbers are not the same. Biggest number of posts come in Wednesday and Thursday, and the votes are in Sunday and Monday 😊. I’m a bit surprised especially from the Sunday data. Looks like hivers are checking the feed more on Sunday and just vote, but don’t post as much.

Hours

The data for votes and post per hour looks like this.

Unlike the data on days, here we can see a clear overlap in the numbers. Most of the posts and votes come in the same hours.

Heat Map Votes and Post Comparison

Here are the two heat maps.

These are a bit smaller, but we can still do some comparison. The numbers of posts have clearly a larger differentiation, or bigger oscillation so to speak then the votes. Votes are more evenly spread. They drop more in the off hours so to speak between 0 and 5, than the number of votes. This is probably because of the autovotes. The votes drop as well in those hours but not as much as the posts. The peak hours are still the same.

What do you think? From the above seems that Sunday might be the best day to post. A lot of votes and not that much of a posts.

All the best @dalz
