The Water Splinter has given me so much trouble in the last few weeks. People usually use the Water Splinter to exploit its magic abilities; which can be pretty powerful. For some reason, I found myself getting hit quite a few times.

However, I did some research and, today, I'm gonna be sharing with you an interesting combo to beat magic in Splinterlands. It worked for me well, and I hope it'll bring a lot of wins to you too.

Note: The strategy outlined below involves buying or renting 2 cards (Owster Rotwell, Shadowy Presence), plus using the free Starter Cards from Splinterlands.

If you want a 100% free combo, see the very bottom of this post.

The Summoner: Owster Rotwell

This summoner is great for anti-magic attacks because, first, the Magic Reflect ability (image below) is just extremely powerful. All friendly monsters will get the Magic Reflect ability and will destroy magic.

So, every time your monsters get hit by magic, they will reflect magic back to them. And that's the only Death Splinter Summoner that can do that.

In fact, if you look at the other 2 Death Splinter playable Summoners you get in Splinterlands, which are Zinta Mortalis and Contessa L'Ament, Owster Rotwell is the only one that will save you against a water deck with magic abilities.

And, the second thing I like about the Owster Rotwell is the low Mana Cost at 3, which makes this fella a great Summoner to use in these situations.

The Frontline Tank: Haunted Spirit

Haunted Spirit will be your frontline just after the summoner.

This is a 5 Mana Cap, but it's the strongest monster for the Death Splinter that you want to have at the front; in position one.

You want this because it has the Heal ability. It's expensive, but the Heal ability is what you want. Plus, it'll reflect any magic attack thanks to the Magic Reflect ability gained from the Owster Rotwell.

The Decoy: Shadowy Presence

If you're getting into a very low Mana Cap battle, you should consider the Shadowy Presence.

You're not gonna get this guy for its abilities; it has none, but because of the very low 1 Mana Cap. I just love this card.

With Owster Rotwell, this guy will get the Magic Reflect and work as a decoy (with 4 health): it'll get hit, return back the magic attack (Magic Reflect), and help you get through the battle.

The Damage Dealers: My 4 Favorites

When I use the Death Splinter, I like to use the following cards. However, it really depends on how much Mana Cap you have at your disposal.

  • Skeleton Assassin to destroy the backline
  • Death Elemental because of the the Snipe ability (targets monsters with Ranged, Magic, or no attack that are not in the first position)
  • Twisted Jester because of the Snipe ability
  • Undead Priest, as it has the Weaken ability and reduces the Health of all enemy monsters

Down below, I'm including 2 screenshots of 2 battles I won yesterday by using the strategy outlined in this post.

Mana Cost: 18

Mana Cost: 29

Free Anti-Magic Deck: Earth Splinter

If you don't want to spend money, here's a reasonably strong Earth Splinter anti-magic combo (depending on the Mana Cap at your disposal):

  • As the summoner, pick the Wizard of Earwood, as it takes away the armor protection of the enemy monsters
  • Unicorn Mustang because it has the void ability and it takes away the +1 magic from the enemy monsters
  • Failed Summoner as it has the Magic Reflect ability
  • Goblin Thief with the Sneak ability
  • Child of the Forest for its Snipe ability
  • Goblin Sorcerer with the Sneak ability

Depending on the Mana Cap you have, this is the best free anti-magic deck that should be working in lower leagues.

And that's it! Would you recommend any other anti-magic formation? Let me know in the comments.
