Get Rich Slowly: The Value of Setting a Makeable "Minimum Daily Goal"

As you are probably aware of by now, I am not among the world's most ambitious people. However, what I lack in terms of ambition, I often make up for with determination.

Which is a sort of wordy way of saying that I am pretty good at adhering to a somewhat mundane and ordinary routine, but don't expect me to have a lot of initiative to go above and beyond that.

Success via Steadiness

Although it's not something I particularly like to talk about, I can't honestly say that I have ever succeeded at anything via inspiration or brilliance. That always seems to have been something that was reserved for "other people."

However, I have often done quite well for myself, simply via establishing a modest routine and then sticking to it.

So where am I going with this ramble?

Somewhere in the not too distant future I will have been part of this community for five years. In the course of that time, I have built a modest "savings account" here, as a result of many hundreds of blog posts and many thousands of comments.

Whereas I have never had a formal plan, I suddenly realized that part of the reason I have done OK — at least on my own modest scale — is that I have always tried to maintain a reasonable "minimum daily goal."

By no figment of anyone's imagination have I ever aspired to being a "Giant Whale," but lots and lots of experience has taught me that you can get a very long way by nothing more than making sure that you always meet or beat your minimum daily goal.

In a completely different realm, I was never a gifted distance runner, but I always stuck to my personal minimum training goals, without fail. As a result, I always did "quite well" in my 10K races and other distance runs... at my best even clocking a 31:45 10K time, even though I was basically a "nobody."

Anyway, to get back to Hive, I'm a bit of a statistician so I've kept a lot of different records/track of my progress here... and recently decided it was time to apply a "minimum daily goal" approach to Hive, as well.

Knowing myself, the only way it will work is if the goal is modest and doesn't require too much drive and dedication! Maybe that sounds defeatist or even lazy, but just being realistic!

Having a pretty good idea of what I earn from curation and from commenting... I've decided that my initial "minimum daily goal" is going to be to add 5.00 or more Hive Power to my balance every day. It might be more, but it should never be less.

I've seen a lot of folks post "My Hive Goals" type posts, so I guess I'd give it a try, as well. But I'm not going to suddenly start creating a flood of posts "about Hive." I'm just putting this here as a "marker,"* of sorts.

First day to be "counted" will be September 1st... and I'll check in and see how it's going after about 120 days... so January 1st, 2022.

And that's it, for now! Thanks for reading, and we'll return to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow!
