This is one of my favorite animes so far. An anime that deals with the cruelty of man and also the inevitable problems we'd face in life. I am going to be comparing this Anime to real life situations thanks to the help of my buddy, Vril. He's not on Hive yet, but he should be.

In life, we have people who'd settle and those who would not. The weak, the average and the strong. Here I'll present you with the top three characters of this beautiful anime...

Norman, Ray and Emma.

However, we are not here to talk about the characters in the anime but what they represent. Vril said...

"Exploitations of a certain demographic... You can see the compound as Africa and the demons as the rest of the world... Those who stand out are killed for benefits and the Mama are the leaders that collaborate with the rest of the world to screw Africa over the more"

In this anime, kids are bred as live stock for demons to be fed. They feed on their brains, the higher their capacity or brain function, the sweeter it tastes. The highest grades of kids are from 11 years old to 12. This ones are kept for the super beasts. That is, their royals.

Now comparing this to real life situation. If you look at the statement made by my friend, conflict over African resources is beyond doubt the worst. It's awful that most western or developed countries take advantage of this conflict to suck out more. Let's look at a specific situation. The Coltan mineral resource.

Coltan (a.k.a columbite-tantalite) is a raw material wildly mined in the DRC(Democratic Republic of Congo) used in electronics and use of technology. As a result, it's a valuable ore. So comparison; the brains of the kids are the Coltan.

Coltan had been the major source of conflict between Congo and it's neighbouring country Rwanda. A lot of lives has been lost and the war cost more than the World War II according to facts and documentaries.

During the "Coltan Fever", many people left their source of livelihood to mine this "gold", also a lot of western industries got their hands in on it. Infact, there was a lot of activity in regards to coltan that shot it's price from $30 in the 90s to $380 by 2000.

This valuable ore not only set Countries feuding, it also led them to sponsoring several rebel groups against one another. It was chaos!

To abate this disaster, Congo required the help of certain military forces including the Rwandan and Ugandan militia. However, this countries refused to leave. Not only that, they exploited the land of it's resources and smuggled it out.

However, activists and NGOs campaigned against this illegal act and went ahead to expose several western electronic companies involved in this chaos.

As a result, many giant corporations such as Nokia, Samsung and Motorola published specific corporate policies against the use of Congolese Coltan and are today buying, at least officially, from other producers in Australia, Canada and few other countries. Source

Illegal smuggling of Coltan still goes on with even more profit. Watching that Anime, I knew it could be compared to real life situations. This is one of them.

The demons are the rest of the world. The compound is Africa. The Mamas (caretakers/givers) are the leaders who sponsor more evil for the sake of profit.

I loved watching the series(still on it) as it brought a lot of new things to my knowledge like my previous post, INFANTILE AMNESIA.

You can read more about the Coltan conflict here or go ahead to watch this(THE PROMISED NEVERLAND) Anime full of mind games, horror and hope.
