One of the most important elements of any business is the logo… Aside the name of the business, the logo is the second most important element that every business has to get right. However, every business can have a logo, but not every business has an effective logo. An effective business logo is simply a logo that simply fulfils its primary purpose and helps a business achieve its ultimate goal which is to become a successful brand. The business logo is a very crucial element that can make or break a business in the long run. The big companies took their business logo seriously and here are they today, their logo has contributed immensely to their success. Nike, Apple are thriving greatly all thanks to their logo which contributes a great percentage to why people purchase their products.

Using this logo as a case study, It was really important for me to create a logo that not only represents what the business what all about but also aims at fulfilling the primary purpose of an effective business logo. The business is focused on high end gaming PC. So for me, it was important to take that into account when creating the logo design.

The Process

I kicked off the logo design process by first getting my questions ready and prepared for the discovery session. Once I got everything needed set, it was time to book an appointment with the client for the discovery session. For me discover session, I like to keep it very engaging so as to get the best information I need out of the session. Some of the key questions I ask is to know what the business is about, who the target customers are, the idea target customer persona and more. After I get all the info I need and have written it down, I round up the session with more fine details questions to get a deeper insight about the business. After that, I move to the next phase.

The next phase is where I do research to learn more about the industry of the business, the general target market, the competitors both direct and indirect competitors. I also like to look deeper into other businesses that are doing a similar thing as the business I an designing a logo for… this helps me get a general feel and knowledge about what is going on in the industry, and what is already working for them in the industry… This is very important… yes it is always good to do something new and novel, however, sometimes, it is best to follow what is already working and just add a twist to it to be unique and stand out while still maintaining the core of what is already working in the industry.

Once I am done with the research phase which for me is really fun… I am usually very excited when I am doing research because I get to learn a lot of new things and acquire a lot of valuable knowledge as well, I start sketching out ideas based on all the info and knowledge gathered during the discovery session and research phase. The first two phases are very important because it helps me narrow my ideas down to what is needed to achieve the main goal. After I am done sketching, I pick out the best and most effective idea concept and begin to develop it even more… this can be done either by refining the design or doing various rounds of revisions to get to closer to the final design as possible.

After that is completed, I execute the design to create the final vector logo design. At this stage, the process is almost at its completion stage. The next phase is to create different presentation designs to give a visual representation of what the business logo would look like when it is used. The whole process is important to achieve an effective business logo design that works for the business… it is important to know that a business logo doesn’t have to be the best looking… Apple logo, Nike logo isn’t stunning in terms of design… but they are all effective… That is the most important thing as far as a business logo design is concerned… effectiveness is key. Once a business logo is effective, it becomes a lot easier for it to achieve its primary purpose and also help the business achieve its ultimate goal.
