Hi there. Chick-fil-A® has announced on February 23rd, 2021 that they will open three new restaurants as a part of their Canadian expansion.

All three of these new locations are in the Toronto area. Here is a segment from their Canadian website.

TORONTO (Feb. 22, 2021) — Chick-fil-A is excited to announce that Kitchener, Ont. and the Toronto communities of Scarborough and Queen Street West have been selected as the locations of its three newest restaurants as part of the company’s Canadian expansion plans. Chick-fil-A Kitchener® will be located at 200-225 Fairway Rd. S.; Chick-fil-A Scarborough® will be located in the Scarborough Town Centre, upper level food court, near entrance 4; and Chick-fil-A Queen & Spadina® will be located at 336 Queen St. W. The restaurants will open for business later this year and will create approximately 200-250 full- and part-time job opportunities. The company has plans to open an additional 20 restaurant locations in the country by 2025.

“We’re thrilled to continue growing in Canada by opening restaurants in Kitchener and Toronto. During these times, we're grateful for the positive response we continue to receive from our Canadian customers and we are honoured to serve our new communities great-tasting food made with high-quality ingredients,” said Anita Costello, executive vice president of International at Chick-fil-A Inc. “Like our first two locations, each restaurant will be locally owned and operated. The success of our business is built on local owner/operators who truly care about their restaurant and the community they serve.”

About Chick-fil-A®'s Known Canadian Locations

Their first Canadian location was located in Toronto downtown near the intersection at Bloor & Yonge right by the Nordstrom Rack store. The second location is also in Toronto but outside of the downtown core and located in the upscale Yorkdale Mall in the North York area of Toronto.

The first five Chick-fil-A® restaurants in Canada are all in the Ontario province. Provinces such as British Columbia out west, Alberta and Quebec could use some Chick-fil-A® burgers too! Two of the five locations are in the downtown Toronto area, one Toronto location in the west side of Toronto (Yorkdale Mall), one location in the Scarborough area which is the east side of Toronto.

The fifth location is in Kitchener, Ontario which is about 67 miles or 108 km west of Toronto. Kitchener is a neighbouring city to the city of Waterloo where it has The University of Waterloo that is well-known for mathematics and computer science. This Kitchener location is somewhat far from the The University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. Knowing students, a good bunch will take the time out of their studies to travel from Waterloo to Kitchener with the Light Right Transit to try out the burgers.

Not Rushing With Expansion In Canada

The restaurant franchise has been steady with opening their restaurants in Canada. They started with one in the downtown Toronto area. After great success with the amount of long lineups they opened a second Toronto location at Yorkdale Mall. Chick-fil-A®'s expansion strategy is not like Target Canada from several years back where Target Canada entered the Canadian market with opening too many stores in the beginning versus opening a few stores to start and test the new market. Target Canada ended up not being financially successful in Canada and closed their Canadian operations after a year or two.

Closing Thoughts

I have tried out Chick-fil-A® burgers two or three times at both locations when the lineups were not crazy. In my opinion, the burgers are just okay, better than McDonalds. They do your orders quite fast knowing that their big demand. It is better to go there when the lineups are less than 100 people.

It does mention that the company plans to open 20 more locations in Canada by 2025. However, it is not known how these locations will be distributed across the provinces in Canada. Hopefully not all in Ontario as other provinces could use a boost from Chick-fil-A®'s investments.
