Lawmakers in Massachusetts have recently approved of a compromise bill that is looking to help grow the cannabis market and make some industry changes.

The new bill would make some new changes in directing a certain portion of money from the industry into a new Social Equity Trust which would offer grants and loans as well to try and boost engagement in the industry. There are some communities who have been more impacted by the war on drugs and it is looking to supposedly help level the playing field and bring more opportunity to those communities.

Along with the changes though are more rules surrounding peaceful activity with this plant, but there is hope that it might mean some changes in the way of fees that cannabis businesses have been having to pay.

Around the country there have been different cannabis companies in the industry who have complained about the high fees that they need to pay to do business, much higher than other businesses in other industries in many cases. This is why there has been growing activism in the US looking to change that and make things better for the cannabis market.

The bill now seems to be heading to Gov. Charlie Baker for further passage.

The hope is that the money in the fund is going to help go toward improving the chances for those smaller business operations that might be looking to break into the market. But it would be great to see that funding being pooled voluntarily, in that case they might even raise much more.
