In a recent Dolby survey it was discovered that about 72 percent of homes had spent a decent amount of money this year on upgrading their home entertainment system.

While millions were forced to be stuck at home for weeks, this meant that they turned to spending more money on not only upgrading their entertainment scene but also on consuming more content too.

Looking for better picture, sound, or possibly new content subscriptions, and more, it was seen that more than 60 percent had spent money on additional streaming services this year, or they had sought to upgrade one entertainment system that they already had.

Streaming devices have seen incredible growth this year, worldwide the television market has seen about 11 percent growth, more than 20 billion just in Q3 of this year. Compared to the same time last year, television sales are up almost 15 percent.

Still, Americans overwhelmingly enjoy having a big television and some of them even used their stimulus check this year to get an upgrade on one.

86 percent of worldwide respondents said they connected with friends and family while consuming entertainment.

Dolby found in one survey that more than 80 percent of people said they bond with their friends and family while watching their favorite shows or movies.

They continually want new experiences, and they're looking for immersive content to feel more connected and social, and this year while so many have struggled with depression, anxiety, and other issues, their entertainment consumption has provided some remedy for them be it a movie, a YouTube channel, or some other form of content.

While thousands of businesses were forced to close, theaters in many regions are still closed and no movies showing, this left entertainment options extremely limited, and people went looking to spend more on televisions and streaming devices etc to fill that void.

Ultimately, we expect the desire for more human connection to continue in the future and immersive experiences can help fulfil this demand,... Just as entertainment drives cultural conversation, that conversation drives connection across the globe, and we are seeing connections grow stronger every day through elevated entertainment experiences.”- J Couling, SVP Commercial Partnerships at Dolby Laboratories
